Good morning ladies! What is on everyone's agenda today? I think I got the date right this time, sorry about that :)

We have finished painting 2 coats on 2 walls of the Revere Pewter, and it's weird because it's looking really green to me. Yellow and green are my least favorite colors so this will be an adjustment. I went to bed very unhappy and upset last night and SO tired, I fell asleep right away and feeling a little better this morning. Do you think I need to give it more time? All the natural light in this room comes from the west, is that why it's looking green?

Judyg - I hope you're battening down the hatches! Scary storm. I was watching Governor Christie (love him!) online and he's a smart man, already preparing for the worse. Please keep us informed?

Bobbi, give it a week and see what you think. Bring in the colors you do like and see if it picks up those. I love the color in the photo, but it's never the same as what it actually turns out to be.

Isn't feeny up in the Boston area? That's under a severe weather watch as well, isn't it?

What are you up to today? We have church this morning and I hope a relaxing afternoon. Playing with Annie-boo at the Fall Festival last night and dinner with her afterwards wore out this old granny.

Nope, feeny is safely ensconced in northern Ohio, with only the leftover drips and dribbles from the big storm expected to come our way for the rest of the week. But some feeny extended family are in the Boston area, and good friends are in NYC attending a big weekend birthday bash we couldn't make it to, so we're keeping an eye on things from afar.

Bobbi--some of the photos of Revere Pewter do indeed have a bit of a green or putty undertone in certain lights (not sure which direction responsible). Here are two photos of a Revere Pewter room I'd describe in that way. Is this what you are seeing and objecting to? I actually love grays and khakis with muted green undertones like this (and we have a similar color in our living room--SW Urban Putty--which I love), so it wouldn't bother me in the least. But I do see how you might be unhappy if this is not a shade you usually are attracted to or use. And there is nothing worse than going through all the trouble to clear, cover, and paint a room and then having doubts about the color. But I agree with creeser, give it a little time to settle. I usually hate everything new that we bring into or do to the house, just because it is new and jarring to my eyes. After a week or so my eyes adjust and I can assess it more objectively.

Hi guys! Er, gals! Thanks for the pep talk on the Revere Pewter. I am surely not going to paint the walls again, waaaay too much work for me. I have decided to do my best to work with it and change some accessories and pictures. Raul is a talented photographer and he just bought a new fancy-shmancy new camera, so my plan is to put him to work!!! He took a series of photos of the flowers in our backyard and hopefully today we will print and frame them to hang. It's a challenge to go from the beige and blue walls with the off white chair rail we had to this because the Pewter is so FLAT in comparison. My plan is to bring in some color with the pics, frame them with the chrome frames we have and black mats on all to make it consistent and coherent. Our area rug is beige and black, furniture beige so just about anything will go with this color, I'll be ok.

feeny, I'm glad to hear that you're out of danger with Sandy, that's a blessing. I hope your friends and family will be ok. Did you finish grading your papers yet?

Creeser, your granddaughter sounds like a kick! Aren't they so much fun? A relaxing afternoon...hmmm....you'll have to tell me what that's like, ok?

Dogs drinking coffee? Oh, no, I get it, you drinking coffee and lounging around with the dogs! hahaha Obviously I'm trying to find humor wherever I can today! Thank God it's Sunday and there is football, woohoo!

Actually one of my dogs probably would drink coffee--she'll eat or drink anything, especially if it's people food. But the thought of an already much too energetic aussie on caffeine is just too terrifying to contemplate.

Not a football (or any team sport) fan, but hubby just told me happily that the SF Giants are on the way to winning the World Series.
Really! Did the Giants win again last night? I was watching some of the game but didn't finish it, I gave up and went to bed. So if they won last night they're up 3-0 over the Tigers.

I'm not a baseball fan, just football and a little soccer for Raul, and I've been a 49er Faithful since the days of Joe Montana. What about your son? Does he do any sports or is he more computer minded? Seems like the kids are one or the other.

Yes, hubby says it's 3-0. Teenage son absolutely, definitively does not do sports. Not sure he's ever agreed to pick up a ball in his life, and he got a D in PE his first year of HS (thank heavens they've allowed extra-curricular independent study credits for PE since then). He's a drama and computer kid.

My last two boys were the same, computers, no sports. But my oldest loves baseball and he is a HUGE Giants fan!

Looking at the photos feeny posted, I see they have brought in that pale steel blue, which I love. Since you like blue Bobbi, try working with that color in your newly painted room. I used it in our bedroom and I love it.

feeny, glad you're not in the eye of the 'frankenstorm'. Amazing how the media has grabbed onto that and dramatized it. At least it's not politics.

Hi ladies, Celebrating my son's 30th birthday with his favorite home-cooked dinner...Swedish meatballs, mashed potatoes and gravy! Give your paint color some time Bobbi. We painted our great room Tyler Taupe which initially looked like baby poo. Once the furnishings and art were back in the room, I loved it.
michigammemom, your menu sounds delicious! What time is dinner, maybe I can make it in time!

Yes, I will give the paint all the time it needs 'cause I'm not doing that again in a hurry! Thanks for your advice.

I love, love Revere Pewter, especially with light blue and Hershey's milk chocolate brown. Bobbi P, if I missed it, what color is your sofa?

I am the one that will be in the midst of it come Tuesday. Already overcast and windy, but I am just about 200 yds from the ocean and my back yard is a kettle pond, fresh water so not impacted by the tide. The tide would be unusually high this week, anyway, and now that we have Sandy, lots of the coast will be hit hard. We are up and not in a flood zone, thank heavens. And we have a gas generator which runs fridge and lights. Stove is gas and we have a gas grille, plenty of food, so no weight loss over this.

I know this isn't supposed to be a cooking channel, but i do not know how to make Swedish meatballs, nor do I know how to make any gravy unless it is beef. We love that kind of meal, so I rely on Ikea for that.

    michigammemom, a quick cooking lesson?
judyg!! OMG, I hope you're going to be ok? Are you evacuating, I thought it was ordered?

Sofa is beige, curtains are beige, light hardwood floors. We (I) decided to decorate and accessorize with black, beige and chrome. Hubby fixed the too short curtain problem, I'll post later when I've got more time.

    BE CAREFUL! You're scaring me!
OK! We made some progress today! Had Raul's pictures printed, bought some black matting material, made mats and hung pictures. I'm getting used to this color now and with the pictures it's going to be ok.

Raul bent the curtain rod brackets down so now the curtains aren't too short any more. Sometimes the simplest solutions escape me. We bought an off-white throw and a beige pillow for the sofa, they look good.

michigammemom, how did your sons birthday celebration go? Can you believe he's 30??? Can HE believe he's 30!!! And Tyler Taupe looked like baby poo, that funny. I guess if you can live with baby poo I can live with Revere Pewter/green.

feeny, I hope you got your work done today! But I hope you didn't work all day.

Judyg, you need to tell us you're ok!

creeser, steel blue would be ok but I think I like the black better. We had a gray/blue before we painted.

Our temp hit a high of 88 degrees today. That should be illegal. I think next weekend we change our clocks, no? That should put an end to the heat til April, at least.

    Everyone have a great night!

Hi, ladies, just managed to get onto this - been out and paid the deposit on my carpet. Thanks for the input!! Sent emails with photo to my daughters too and got no feedback either. Sooooo good to have one thing off my mind. Organised for it to be laid Friday 7th December so that gives me 6 weeks to finish painting my bedroom and do the lounge and dining rooms. In theory should be a piece of cake - the reality ??????????????. Lot will depend on the weather, if it gets too hot and steamy we decided we will try for a 6am start.

Great idea using photos of flowers in your garden Bobbi. I was thinking of that for my bedroom, hanging maybe 3 over my bed. Not sure whether to frame or do canvas prints, depends on what is the cheapest, not going overboard on cost, so I can change it when I get bored.

Just looking at the photos feeny posted, I don't mind that grey colour at all, was a little worried it might have gone a bit khaki as that would be hot in the room, especially with beige lounge and curtains, while they are neutral they will take a cool or warm stand depending on colours you put with it. I definitely like the blue, I keep coming back to the cool aspect, and that is what you need and I also like how restful it is.

Maybe you have just taken a giant stride outside your comfort zone instead of a baby step, you just need a few people to admire it and tell you how trendy you have been - that does wonders. Of course you could always put blue globes in your lights - heeheehee.

Seems we are having a pooey time with paint, you with your baby poo and me with my roo poo. Funny when you were talking swedish meat balls my first thought was Ikea - yummy but full of lots of garbage.

Judy, I have to admire your bravery, 200 yds to the beach and you are staying put???? I would have been burning rubber two days ago. Good luck with it, I hope it isn't as bad as it sounds.

Must go and brave another coat on this ceiling - HATE ceilings, walls I can handle but the ceilings are just too much climbing. Dreading my lounge room, I have a 9ft ceiling in there - the things you do when you are young.

feeny, forgot to ask, what sort of a dog do you have?
Two australian shepherds--very energetic. They keep us on our toes.
Some folks make more of a cream gravy with Swedish meatballs. I just add beef broth to the browning pan, thicken with cornstarch and water and season to taste. I cover the browned meatballs with the gravy and bake all in the oven for 1 hour. Very easy and hearty. Feeny, my I have two Aussies as "grandpups". They are such clowns! Judyg stay safe!
Oh my goodness, I have never heard of them. Checked Google, lovely looking dog but I read they never really grow out of being puppies which makes them great for kids but they like to work, they are very energetic and if you have them indoors too long they go batty!!!

    Learn something new every day!!!
On rainy days like today I wish our Aussies were grandpups and someone else was responsible for their daily off leash run in the park! But their antics are indeed so funny-- especially with each other.
Your Swedish meatballs sound lovely MM--I'm tempted to try them. Off to the grocery store this morning to shop for tonight's dinner.

Yes, groovygranny, all totally true. Beautiful, very affectionate, gentle dogs, but if they don't get their daily top speed romp in the park, complete with tennis balls and frisbees, they bounce off the walls. But it helps having two. They keep each other entertained. And they certainly liven up the house, which is good in our case as we have just one son and everyone tends to sit around reading all day.
feeny, What variety are your Aussies? My son has a blue merle and a black tricolor. The blue merle is a particularly lovely coat.

We have two blue merles with turquoise eyes. They are half-siblings, male and female (neutered of course), with similar markings so they look a bit like twins. We just adore the blue merle markings, and our male has a nice, thick mane and show coat. Our female is the goofball in the family.
So they really do have beautiful blue eyes? I noticed them in the photos on Google but assumed it was computer colours. They really look amazing. I'm going to have to really keep my eyes open for them now, I can't believe I haven't seen or heard of them. Maybe they are used in the country more as working dogs - too hard for lazy City people who can't understand the need to take dogs for a walk and wonder why they bark all day. Some people need a licence to get out of bed each day!!
They are very much country dogs. We got ours off of a 100 acre working farm, complete with sheep (which they were starting to learn to herd, even as puppies).
Just been on Google again and I'm not going mad after all. These dogs were developed in the US and actually have no connection with Australia at all!!!!

Was reading a bit more on traits and it said they are very good guard dogs and will bark when a stranger approaches and even run around the house a few times. LOL - I can just picture it, sound like a fun dog. The 'herding' instinct can become very strong in them that they will try to 'herd' humans by nipping at their heels but they can be trained out of this.

This time I am going to bed - it is 12.30 am and I was determined to have an early night.
Yes, the name is TOTALLY misleading. Probably originally from the Basque region of Spain, and then imported as working dogs on ranches in the western US. And they do run around in circles when anything exciting is going on--from signs of a walk to guests arriving to dinner bowls. Our male takes his job of guarding the house very seriously--sleeps next to the front door all night when hubby is out of town, while his sister cuddles on the bed with me.
I was in a bit of a hurry to get to bed, but I did see something about them coming from the Basque region but they called them Australian because of all the Australian shepherds in the area. That was a bit weird, although we have huge sheep farms here, we don't really use the term shepherds. Have to try to find the website again and read up more, it has me quite curious. I must see if they are bred here at all, they certainly are beautiful dogs.

That is so cute how he guards the house for the women.
