19.7 cubic foot should be their counter depth model. The depth of the actual shelves is errelevant for a platter, that is why no one is giving you what you need.

The usable depth with the shelves extended is 18 3/4 inches. This does require movement of the door bins so the depth is not impeded.

The double door model is a much prefered layout for several reasons, especially if the distance from the front of the refrigerator to a counter is not very far. The big door on a 22 cubic foot single model can be hard to manuever around.

aprince: there's a 19.9 cf 2 door with bottom freezer (KitchenAid Architect II KBRS20EV) ...would that give me more shelf space and depth than the french door? (it doesn't have an inside water dispenser ...which i really liked over the indoor one.)

i have a big salad bowl that is 14" across the widest and i regularly put in it the fridge. i just want to be sure it will fit on a shelf and i can shut the door.

Both refrigerators are Counter Depth so there will be a minimal difference in the usable depth. I'm confident the 14" platter will easily fit but to ease your mind could you take it to a showroom and see? You could also pop into a dishwasher or two just for your future reference for when a new dishwasher is needed
