I think it's really gorgeous stone and would look fabulous with a copper sink. Unfortunately I can't speak to the maintenance aspect of it.

Drama is my middle name, so go for it. Onyx is a show stopper. I dont have a countertop but i have used it in a shower. It does not stain but it does etch if you dont wipe away spills.

Dont forget to underlight it :)

It's tough to say without seeing the slab as a whole, but I think it's a great looking slab with nice accent colors.

If you want drama, then backlight the slab to really set it off.

I only had my iPhone camera with me, so it was tough to get the whole slab into one shot, but I shot it in 4 parts, which you can scroll through on "next" and "previous". The person helping me did also suggest underlighting it. I love it, but not sure it will work with rustic Saltillo/terra cotta floor tile already purchased.

Ooooh! Preeeetty! Gorgeous stone! I can't speak to the maintenance aspect, but I have seen onyx installed in a hotel bathroom..If they can make it work, I'm sure it can work for you in a hall bathroom- Go for it!

If your tile floor is just a simple terracotta I think the combination would be fabulous with the onyx. Mixing textures is a much better design choice than trying to do everything in the same type of finish (in this case smooth and shiny). I think with a copper sink you continue to carry on the tonal coordination but keep your textures interesting. Personally I'd glam up the mirror a bit and definately backlight the counter.

I have honey onxy on a countertop in our master suite. The dog dances on it, thomas the train has wild fights with James, cats sleep and bath on it, coffee and wine has been spilled as well as the sundry bottle or two (of soy milk). All I do is polish it back up with some marble milk and it's fabulous in 5 mins. In my next home I'll find a way to work it into the kitchen...hopefully a countertop!

That is great news re the durability of onyx in a bathroom application, igloochic! Not as risky as I feared. I actually looked at a honey onyx pillow top mosaic to give the backsplash some extra dimension but that might be onyx overload even though it is monochromatic and without a pattern.

DH has not seen the onyx slab yet in person and favors a rustic splitface scabos travertine 1 x 2 subway for the splash, but I had trouble finding a countertop to go with it. Was considering slate to make the copper pop when I saw the onyx.

Here is the dash of honey seen as possible splash, with or without the onyx slab. Scroll for slate countertop samples and scabos travertine as rustic backsplash, both moving away from the onyx.

I would love a slab of onyx in my bathroom! I personally loved the way the copper sink with slate tiles for backsplash. I will be having a honey colored onyx vessel installed in my powder room, hopefully soon. (My granite fabricator puts remnants on the bottom of his list apparently!) There's just something about onyx! Igloo, your post was re-assuring as to the upkeep.

Tell me more about marble milk. My onyx vessel sink has gotten dull after several years of use. I was thinking of buffing it with a machine but i am interested in this marble milk.

No go on the onyx. Can't sell something with so much movement for the countertop to DH. He is preferring a quieter limestone - new gascogne blue, which is next to impossible to find in CT.
