fire!

Well every day of building a home brings new excitement. My wife drove up to the house about 10 this morning ( 2hrs from where we live) and saw they were taking out our kitchen window framing that we thought was finished. Then she saw the house floor was all wet. Well some cardboard boxes of roof vent material were by the house and sparks from the slash pile set it ablaze. 6-8 feet of wall was charred and was replaced, studs, headers and sheathing. The pile of this beautiful attic flooring had two inches burned off one end. ItÂs been replaced and is already in the attic. The grader was on site but to the south of the house. Fire started but his fire engine with pump and water wouldnÂt. So he called 911 and the fire dpt got it under control very quickly. It happened yesterday afternoon around 5 and GC said when the damage is as little as this was he doesnÂt call until itÂs repaired. They worked on it til 1030 last nite and by the time DW left this morning it was all done. Funny, itÂs too bad that happened but IÂm just not as upset about it as much as I think I should be  that stuff can happen. Of course the land clearer will be paying GC for all the repair work and material replacement. So it has set things back a day or two but thatÂs it. The fire department and the County building inspector have to inspect the repair work and say everythingÂs OK and ready to keep building.
