bed room layout

wondering if i was to square off the closet rather than angled and if i put a pocket door it would be more useable space?

was also thinking of putting a niche in the hallway area at the top part of the closet?

Here is a link that might be useful: BR layout

I'm a big fan of pocket doors. I'm not sure what you mean about squaring up the closet. An angled bedroom needs to be really big to work (i.e., there must be the footprint of a regular rectangular room within.)

swampwiz. did the picture link above not work for you? i had drawn in the idea of squaring, if it does not work, let me know

what part of pocket doors do you not care for? I grew up in a house that had pocket doors on the basement bedrooms so not to swing into certain spaces and they really were handy to be so flush and hidden

friends have one on a 1/2 bath and it too seems handy so i had asked to sketch one in for our mudroom 1/2 bath too but perhaps your opinions will enlighten me to the drawbacks.

Can you post the entire floor plan for that floor? I have to say, just based on that snippet, I don't think the bedroom plan is very good. Strange closet shape, lots of wasted space. It looks haphazard.

sure, plan actually was designed like that and daughter wants walk in but though i could square the bottom of it off to still have both

I said that I am a fan of pocket doors. They really do the trick sometimes.

I see what you mean by squaring off. Yes, I would highly recommend that.

As long as you have enough room to put a bed (of whatever size) backed up against the left wall, with 2-1/2' (3' preferred) of clear space between the bottom edge of the bed and the bottom wall, and the upper right corner of the bed and the right oblique wall, you'll be OK. Squaring off the left side would make this easier, but squaring off the right side would definitely solve the space problem - you'd have a legitimately sized bedroom with a funky, but functional (would that by funktional?) entrance.

As for the complete design, I'm definitely not a fan of walking past the toilet to get to the closet, but it seems like it would be too difficult to change. As for the great room, I'm wondering how you plan to place the furniture.

my bad.. sorry eyes must be failing me .. glad to hear you like them.

Ok i will send the suggestion to the arch, dont think i can steal any of my main closet though on the right :-)

yes i like the seperate toilet rooms but again not sure how o rearrange to make that work as i do not want to walk thru closet to bathroom

as for great room i was thinking couch across from wood burning FP, then love seat to right angle and 2 chairs across on other right angle, piano along the left wall but i would love suggestions to improve or better layout

    thanks

I agree, squaring the corner will definitely help with furniture placement options. You said that will be your daughters room? Be sure to double up on the drywall or add insulation to the wall for a sound barrier. You wouldn't want to wake her up with any late night flushing or early morning showering.

Can you put the guest coat closet under-the-stairs? Yes, square off 'her' closet, or somehow reconfigure it if you can have closet under the stairs.

    hi salena
sorry cant see the whole thing but up to the right where stairs is open to room and basement, it is a bungalow so there is no understair storage so need to keep it there but could reshape if have any ideas.

rachelh- never thought about the insulation or double drywall, will suggest to DH, daughter is 12 and will be in the room for a few years yet. thanks

I would also square up the kitchen cabinets against the pantry. Make your cabinets cheaper, no doubt. Overall, there are quite a few angles that cause issues, as I see it.

    Good luck!
