flake off part 2

Merry (Belated) Christmas, Everyone!!

Sorry I've been MIA. DH went back to the hospital for his reconstructive surgery on his colon the 8th. The surgery was successful and we came home on the 16th. I've been having troubles with my internet provider since we got home. Hopefully it is ok now.

I still haven't had time to perfect my picture taking abilities, but I want to share the table I did up for the grandkids.

The tablecloth came from the S A Store $4, the snowflake box in the center was an after Christmas Walmart find $.50, the silver snowflake under the box was also from the S A Store, I think $2.50

I had leaned up against the table taking other pics and didn't notice that I had wrinkled up the napkin and pushed the little white snowflake over until I loaded the pic up here!

A closer look at my silver snowflake

This shot is neater

This darling glassware came from a local Kroger grocery store $1 each. Y'all know how I love blue!!

After posting all of the pics I noticed that the blue snowflake had fallen off of one of the candles! That's what I get for being in a hurry!

Oh, Betty, the table is sooooo pretty! Now, I'll take the glasses off your hands, you know they would go great with my blue table too! We don't have a Kroger here anymore, but what darling glasses & such a great price.

The snowflake box looks just perfect as the centerpiece & the silver snowflake under it just shows it off even more.

You even have blue snowflake plates!!! I had no luck finding anything in blue this year with snowflakes!

Where did you get those darling blue plates?

I bet your grandkids felt really special to have such a beautiful table.

Betty, Oh, My! what a wonderful job you did on your snowflake table, just stunning, love the color scheme and all the goodies you put together for this, I know your grand kiddies had to have love it, look out, they will want this from you all the time now LOL! :)

Ditto!!! It's beautiful. Just love the wintery blue. I think you did a great job takin pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Very pretty table setting - bet the grandkids felt special sitting at that table. I have 3 grandsons that could really care less about a fancy table setting but I do have a grandaughter that is all about that kind of stuff. She would have loved that.

your photography skills are quite nice also - TFS ......

Wow Betty, what a beautiful tablescape! The glasses are so pretty and I really like the blue snowflake plates. I would love to know also where you found them. The box is perfect and so cute sitting on top of the silver snowflake. I really like how you used the two snowflake placemats together. I know your grandchildren were thrilled with their special table!

    HOW CUTE!!!!!! I LOVE IT!

Turned out just great Betty, I love all your items, and what a great idea to use that pretty box for a centerpiece. Those glasses and mugs were such a great buy, they are really neat. I love it all, you did a wonderful job pulling it all together. Luvs

I hit some after Christmas sales this weekend, and couldn't resist doing another snowflake tablesetting. The silver angel, pink snowflake plates, snowflake napkin rings and beaded placemats were all bought for 50% off.

Before next Christmas, I'd like to get some pink bread & butter plates to match the dinner plates. Then I'll use the small votive cups as individual butter dishes.

OH MY is that an incredible table setting! I JUST LOVE IT!

    dreamgoddess,
I can't believe all the pretty snowflake and icy things you own! Very very pretty!

    You girls are motivating me!!!

    Ladies-
Love both of your tables. What a great way to extend the holidays.
Betty-so glad your DH is doing better. Hopefully 2009 will be a healthy one for him, as well as the rest of us.

Dream - those beaded placemats are gorgeous - that could almost pass as a bridal shower setting too- especially a winter one - I LOVE those snowflake plates. Very very nice ....

Thanks, Everyone for your kind comments. I don't think the grandkids enjoyed the table as much as I did putting it together. They are boys! It's more like,"Yeah Nanny, it's neat. Now, whatcha cooking?"
Yachter,I got the blue snowflake plates at the Dollar Tree. Actually my DD spotted them first and came running telling me I had to come see them. They are plastic which is great with my VERY energetic grandsons! But I really need your beautiful blue trees to go on my table!

Judith, I have missed you soooo much! I'm hoping you have gotten your computer problems all worked out. But, where is your Holiday table and pics of your tree? I saw the little peek on your blog and it has me anxiously waiting to see everything.
Dream, WOW! I LOVE that pink. Where did you ever find those gorgeous pink snowflake salad plates? I've been wanting some of those beaded placemats ever since I passed some up last Christmas and couldn't find any later. What a wonderful deal you got. Those napkin rings are darling. Everything is beautiful.
Thanks, Mommacass. He has come a long way since he was so badly injured at work in June. What a miracle he is. We woke up early Christmas morning and were sitting by the tree waiting for our DS to wake up talking about how blessed we are. Just being alive together is the best Christmas present of all.

    Thanks again everyone.

Betty, our DT never did have any blue plates, they had red ones, so guess different parts of the country get different things. Sigh!!!

I still love your table, the silvers & blues are so pretty together, guess I didn't have enough silver on mine, but it's still a learning process for me!!

Dream, another beautiful table & those pink & white snowflake dishes are just adorable, plus the beaded placemats. They are quite expensive around here, but hopefully I'll find some drastically reduced when I do get out to check on them.

I'm a few days late for the "after sales" since we were out of town!!!

They had lime green ones at Penny's but they were $11.99 each before Christmas!!!

Both of you have AWESOME tablescapes! Just amazing!

Betty, I'm SO glad you're back, and what a lovely table-setting you did! The blue is just beautiful.
(so is your pink, Dream. And your angel centerpiece especially).

Betty, the news about Alfred's surgery being successful is a GREAT way to end this year. I couldn't be happier for the both of you.

    hugs, Karen

Wow, gorgeous tables. Love the pink snowflake dishes, Dream. They are beautiful and would go so well with your xmas decor! Betty, I got the same glasses!!! :) After reading that your table was for your gkids, I am not sure if I should post my only table pics here! Well, here is my simple snowflake table for a dinner thing tonight. Hmm, I see the breadmaker is making an appearance in the pic.

Details - I made the runner with felt but it has a lot of mistakes and according to DH looks 'amateurish'! The snowflake bowl is one I have had for a long while and had forgotten about. I got it at a mikasa outlet after christmas a few years ago. The placemats are remnant from the fabric I used to upholster my headboard with a few years ago. The small silver trays I used as chargers are from $ tree. The dishes I posted a while ago are from Ross. The cheesy looking napkin rings are also home made. As well as the napkins. I cannot convince DH to let me use place cards unfortunately!! So place cards for us. :( I really need a nice set of silver ware and I think I am going to get it next week. We are headed to the outlet mall next week, yay!!

Here is another placemat I tried. Which one do you guys think looks better - the snowflake or the dark blue?

Thanks Yacht, I still love those brilliant blue trees you have. Your table was grand. I never would have thought to do a cocktail table. With those trees you didn't need any silver. The trees commanded all of the attention!

Thanks Blizlady. Now show us a pic of your pretties.

Thanks Karen. He is doing remarkably well. This Christmas was the best ever after coming so close to being a widow.

WOW, Mo!! Tell DH that He is WRONG! I just bought a few things at the $1 store and SA and plopped them on the table and took some pics. But, you are soooo talented! I could never have BEGUN to make such a beautiful table runner, placemat, napkin, or napkin ring.
And I love your snowflake bowl. How unique. Did you use a store bought pattern for your tablerunner or did you do the snowflakes freehand? What a great job!
I like both settings. Why don't you try putting the snowflake on the placemat then set the plate on it and see if you like it.

    Another blue table just lovely!
I do not see any mistakes it's an awsome job. Way better than I could do.
I agree with Betty...it would look pretty with the snow flake on the placemat and then the plates.

Have fun shoppin for silverware!! I took pictures of my Christmas table but did not post them cause my silverware is all miss match and no napkins... Really should go shoppin...
    Thanks for sharing.

Mo, sorry to say it, but hubby is totally WRONG!!!!! I see nothing remotely amatueurish about your tablesetting. Had you not told us you made the items, we never would have known it. I promise you, they look like items you bought in a store. Your tablesetting is lovely!

I never would have thought of using the silver tray from the $ store as chargers...what a fabulous idea! I love your runner and the snowflakes and would also love to know if you cut them out freehand.

Count my vote for using the white snowflake on top of the blue ones. I think that would be a stunning look with your blue and white plates.

Mo, I agree with the others about your tablesetting.
Don't listen to DH, LOL, WE know better.

    hugs, Karen

Mo, that runner is gorgeous & I don't see any mistakes! I cannot believe you did that yourself, must have taken days to cut all of that out! Tell your DH that we all think your table looks FAB!!!

They are all beautiful tablescapes. All so unique and interesting.

Mo, your runner is great and I don't see any mistakes.

I love that table runner - was it a pattern or just different snowflakes you cut out and put together. It looks great and such a unique idea. I vote to keep the blue placemats and see how you like the snowflake on top of it but definitely keep the placemats

btw - I have come to the conclusion that our DH's are probably happy with just the food plunked down in front of the on styrofoam plates - LOL ......

    Lynne

Thank you ladies! You are so good for the ego!! :) The runner is just a bunch of snowflakes cut seperately and sewn together. I would have loved to cut them out from one piece but I could not figure out a way to cut felt with a blade - I tried. It was a few evenings of watching TV and cutting out snowflakes. LOL. Just freehand drawing of snowflakes. I cannot take credit for the idea though - I saw it somewhere on the web and copied it.

I tried it with the snowflake on the placemat and you are right - it looks much better. I should think it terms of layering more.

Betty, your tables are always fabulous! That itself is a great talent!! Mine are nowhere near any of you pros - but I like to think I am learning. Actually, DH thinks this is better than the others I have done so far. :)

Dream - those silver trays are only slightly bigger than the dishes; they are probably not meant to be chargers.

Bright - you have a great decorating taste. Now, lets see your table setting! :) Mix 'n' match is the hot thing these days - atleast thats what I tell myself when I dont have a matching set. :) If you look closely, I dont have a matching set of almost anything on that table!!

Up close you can see how the snowflakes are joined and stuff but the folks I had for dinner loved it. Surprisingly, all the food turned out good - DH declared the baguette I made is the best he has ever had. Yay!! The last dinner party I had, all the food, and I mean everything was off!! So I am pretty happy now.

I'm late to chime in here, but just have to say that I am loving all this eye candy. I am so amazed at all the great snowflake items everyone has come up with. Funny how I really had never paid much attention to them until looking for things for our "flakey" tables this year.

Dream, those snowflake plates and the cupcake votives are so sweet. Where did you find them? That is a beautiful angel and what a great idea to put her on top of the stacked plates. Love the pink items with the crystal and silver too.

Mo, I really love your snowflake runner. That must have taken a long time to cut out, but sure looks great on your table. Blue and white schemes just always look so pretty, and I love how creative you are.

Betty, I had already commented on your pretty table too, but keep going back to look again. I really love the snowflake glasses you found. I too want to add how thrilled I am that Alfred doing so well on his road to recovery. When you first told us about his accident, I was just so scared for both of you. What a wonderful thing to hear about the two of you together counting your blessings--I really think your love for each other was a big factor in his survival. God bless you both.

Bright, It doesn't matter if your silverware doesn't match, I still want to see your table. I always set a table for 4 because the only nice silverware I had was for 4 placesettings I got when my sister died and I got 1/2 of her set. And I never owned any cloth napkins until I found all of you here and wanted to learn how to set pretty tables. My parents were very poor and raised 7 children. Daddy had no education and Mama only made it to the 7th grade. Food was a priority, not cloth napkins.
They taught me the really important things like love and true friendship and support.
Everyone here, no matter their financial position shows true friendship and support. They did to me and we will to you. Now, let us see that table, Girl!! The matched silverware and napkins can come later.

Lynn, I agree with the comment about the styrofoam. Heck, I like it sometimes too!!! Shhh, don't tell the others!

Mo, Now share that recipe for the baguette!

Luvs, Thanks for the sweet comments and especially for all of the prayers for Alfred. That is what got him through. We are so blessed.

Betty, I have been missing a lot too! So many demands on our time during the holidays, but family is first!
Glad you are back and that DH did well, thank goodness!
You flake table is so pretty with the blue. So many pretty touches!
You did a great job! Very soothing! I hope you had fun with it too!

Dream, those pink flakes are you! Very unique, and a beautiful table! Love your centerpiece...looks very romantic!

Mo, you are doing great! I love that you made the runner from felt...how clever!

Betty, I used this recipe minus the egg wash on top. Instead, I wet the loaf with water before putting into the oven. And I baked it at 425deg for 20 min. I read somewhere that hight temp + steam produces a nice crust - thats why I do that.

I am VERY late in posting as I have been busy over the holidays but just HAD to comment on these great tables!

Betty - Your blue and white snowflake table is so pretty, I can't believe that was for your grandsons! They are so fortunate to have a Nanny who would do that for them and I think the earlier you expose boys to the 'pretty' things in life, the more romantic they are as they get older (which of course, us women appreciate!). Your beautiful table should have made an impression even if it was subconsciously! Keep up the great work! My favourite part is your centerpiece - how smart to put a snowflake box on a cake plate, it really sets the theme! (Glad to hear Alfred is doing well - that really was a scare for all of us last summer!)

Dream, I would never have thought to put pink with a snowflake theme but yours turned out so wonderfully and gave it a romantic touch. Your "snowflake" silver angel as a centerpiece is perfect! Love those salad plates! You have a great idea to use those votive holders as individual butter dishes next time (I, too have so many pretties on the table, there is never enough room for food!)I wish I could find those beaded placemats at a reasonable price - way too much even after Christmas!

Mo, that snowflake runner is stunning and sets the theme to your table so well. I can't believe you MADE it along with the snowflake placemats! (Professional not amateurish!) Your centerpiece of "snowballs" in a bowl on a mirror is a terrific idea too! Your blue plates go well with everything and I agree that this is your best table so far - terrific! Can't wait to see more in the future!
