Fratelli -- the mystery oven?

I have actually read great reviews of this oven on some websites that sell appliances like ajmadison and absolutehome. Not much on here though. What gives? It is a dual fuel and super reaonably priced (relatively). Any users out there?

Actually, if you search appliances forum, as I did just last week, you'll see a couple of threads on this oven. It generally gets good reviews, with the one drawback the limited btu's of its large burners. I'm actually seriously considering this myself--but I'm a little uneasy about buying it off the web, and would like to see it in person. So far none of the local high-end appliance stores seem to carry it. The only other comparable price in a 36" range is Fisher-Paykel, and that I have seen in person. I love the Fisher-Paykel design, but it somehow seems a little more flimsily made than the others. We budget-conscious large range buyers seemingly can't be choosers, however!

I purchased the Royal Chiantishire in Anthracite. It is sitting in the box in my garage and will be installed on the 12th. I promise to post photos and reviews once we begin using it because I know what it was like having trouble trying to find info about it!!

I personally did not want a rocket fueled range, so the btu limitations are not an issue for me. I like to cook, but do not feel the need for the higher btus. There is a thread out there which addresses this issue and I agree that it isn't really necessary...

Anyway, if you have technical questions regarding the range, I recommend contacting Glen Durst at Boce Appliance in Wilmington, Ohio.

    Here is their website: http://bocesupply.com/

He was extremely helpful and was able to ship it to me in PA. We don't have any local Fratelli dealers either.

Best of luck! Hopefully I will be able to add photos and add'l info by the end of the month...

dc_charlotte--Thanks for the additional info and your offer to post further reviews. I'm anxious to hear what you think!

I had given up checking the appliances forum for Fratelli news and just did so on a whim tonight.

dc charlotte, I had actually been thinking of you and wondering if your oven had been installed yet. I'm looking forward to your pix!

My appliances, including the Fratelli Evolution, are arriving on the 15th.

Our appliances go in on Tuesday! I am staying with my in-laws right now though b/c our kitchen is not done yet. I expect to be back home by next weekend. I hope to post photos by the following week. I probably won't have any functional comments until my kitchen is fully re-assembled by the end of this month. :) Everything is in boxes and I don't even remember what I have anymore!! The stuff has been in storage for two years. :: It will be like Christmas opening them up and finding things again...

I haven't used photobucket in awhile, so I may have to re-post if the images don't come through... Here are some pix:

So far, cooking is a breeze! I have only used the range part other than doing some quick reheats in the oven. I look forward to baking soon. I will write a detailed review in the near future, but I must attend to my kids right now. I just wanted to make sure I posted some photos as promised... I wish I could have put them up sooner, but things are still really hectic around here. :)

Let me know if you want photos of specific areas of the range. I can post additional photos by request. I just wanted to get something up there to start. The anthracite is just awesome! All the other colors were a shiny painted color, but the anthracite is a textured matte black color- seems as though it will be less prone to scratches...

    That's it for now!!

Thanks for sharing! Our Fratelli Evolution is in now, too. Have only used the range so far, but am so pleased with the look and feel of this oven!

Your kitchen looks great--I'm switching back to the kitchens forum right now to make sure I haven't missed any other pix of it!

I just went to an appliance store this afternoon and they had a Fratelli Evolution sitting there. I have been dead set on the 36" GE Monogram, seeing the price on the Fratelli sort of threw me for a loop. I have tried to compare specs, and the BTU's are def. lower on the Fratelli and it has 4.4 Cubic ft oven space compared to GE's 4.6. The Fratelli is also 24" deep compared to Monogram's 28 1/4". The Fratelli is a really nice looking range in person and less than half the price of the Monogram. How much of a difference does the lower BTU's make?

The BTUs on the Fratelli are just fine for me! I like cooking and do a darn good job of it. I also use my range every day. Unless you are a culinary student, I just don't see the need for the excessive BTUs. Everything I have prepared so far has come out nearly perfect and would not have been any better had I had a higher BTU burner.

I'm not sure if this is the right post for this or not but here goes. Sorry if this should be its own thread.

I found a 30 inch wolf range that is about 4 years old and in near PERFECT condition for $600 dollars on craigslist the other week. It all checked out and after inspection is now sitting in my garage. It's lovely.

I had hoped to have a 36 inch range in my new house (under construction) and was REALLY interested in the Royal Chiantishire prior to finding the Wolf. I am considering selling the Wolf (I think I could easily get 3K for it)and getting the Fratelli 36t inch. I love to cook...its been years (over 15) since I have had access to a decent range. Is this a dumb idea...should I take the lucky find and be done, or should I change to the Fratelli. Is there really that much more of a difference. I love the look of the Fratelli but I have never seen one in person.

    thanks,
    Jay

If it were me, I'd sell the Wolfe and get the Chiantishire. I think the additional six inches is way better than having higher BTUs. Plus, the Wolfe is so predictable, while the Fratelli is not. I can also use three burners at once on a 36" Fratelli and still have room to move everything around comfortably. Can't do that on the 30 inch Wolfe...

I would just stay away from the burgandy in the Chiantishire b/c the brass they use is a weird shade and makes the range reminiscent of Mardi Gras. If you go to www.eurochefusa.com you can check for local dealers. This function was under construction before, but is updated now.

P.S. When I say 'predictable', I mean everyone working on an upper scaled kitchen has a Wolfe or thinks they 'need' a Wolfe. I think it's a bit overrated. I definitely don't mean that the Fratelli is 'unpredictable' in terms of use! I just read my own post and realize it was a little confusing.

Had never heard of a Fratelli before reading this thread. Thanks guys for the new information. I will be buying a new range soon, and I'm trying to go over all my options.
Now I have a new range to research.
    Thanks again. =]

I bought my Fratelli Onofri Evolution (in anthracite) from AJMadison this summer. It's still in the plastic waiting for install (probably mid October) but wanted to share--
Picked it for all the reasons most others have cited. Especially wanted the fifth center burner--and the oven is bigger than that in the bertazzoni (which was one of the other models in the running) Was lucky enough to see one in person at a warehouse that deals "to the trade only" so although they weren't concerned with selling me one he was happy to show it to me, which was really really cool and helped me seal my decision. I also talked to the US importer who was able to share service information. Was nervous about ordering from AJMadison because they get very mixed reviews but took the leap anyway and will tell you that my experience was picture perfect in every way. It arrived within one day of the stated arrival date (along with the hood, minifridge and stainless backsplash). Had a minor issue with the delivery crew and called AJ Madison and they were extremely responsive.

Plan on posting finished photos/cooking reports as well when it's finally installed!

Thought I was set on the Bosch 30" slide in Pro dual fuel until I ran across this thread. Anyone willing to give an update? I am working toward finalizing my design specifics so I may order my cabinets.

Janfan, didn't you just post pics of your beautiful new kitchen? Hmmm, I think you even mentioned your range?

These ranges are all 36" and come in dual fuel with one big oven or two smaller ones? I will have a 27" oven at my baking center, any advice on what route to go on the range?

    bumping...in hope of an update.

Finally installed this week! Have cooked two nights in a row--typical weeknight fare, nothing fancy. Stir fry last night and pasta tonight. I'm LOVING my stove. I'm going to roast chicken tomorrow night, which will be the maiden voyage of the oven.

One confusion only so far, and that is the digital clock. I'm not stupid, but I'm starting to feel that way--anyone with a fratelli have trouble getting the clock to work correctly? I think I have it set, and then it doesn't keep time. Even with the manual in front of me I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Anyhow, here are some pictures...I'll eventually pretty everything up for a 'finished kitchen' post but in the meantime, with plastic coating still on my hood chimney and no cabinet glass, and debris everywhere-- I at least have a WORKING kitchen! Yippee!

I have recently be able to actually see a Bertazonni and a Fischer Paykel. I have yet to find a local source for the Fratelli. I was not happy with the flimsy oven racks in the Paykel. I could actually push them down with my hands and the bowed in the middle. I can't imagine this rack supporting a heavy roasting pan. The Bertazonni racks were very substantial. My interest in the Fratelli are 1. The cost, much cheaper than the Bertazonni and 2. Fratelli is dual fuel. Can anyone give me some feedback on the quality of the oven racks in the Fratelli?

    bump

I have decided to sell my Wolf and will go with the Berta or the Fratelli Royal Chiantishire....

Saw a Berta in person....If I get a Fratelli it will have to be sight unseen.

    Would love input...opinion...pro's/con's.

You might ask plumorchard over on the American Range thread- she owned a Berta and a Wolf. From what I've seen of the two, the Wolf is a much better range, larger oven burner, better broiler, etc. I don't know anything about the Fratelli except they seem to be mainly dual fuel ranges?

Based on all I have read, I am prepared to purchase the Fratelli Evolution 36" dual fuel range sight-unseen. Is everyone still thrilled with their purchase?

Wow! That is one gorgeous range - and such a reasonable price!!! I had never heard of Fratelli before. It is now added to my list - except we don't have gas lines here in my town. So I will have to hope they come out with an induction top!

Still love love loving my fratelli. Oven racks are certainly quite sturdy for my needs (did my huge turkey in my huge roaster at thanskgiving--no problem) Linking to another thread where I've said more on this below:

Here is a link that might be useful: More dish on the Fratelli

To Fratelli owners- how does the range work for low simmering? The 20 +-year old Frigidaire that came with my home burns chili and soup unless I stir very frequently. I'm looking for a good 36" range that will simmer without burning, is reliable, and made by a responsive company. I would prefer to have a self-cleaning range and a color rather than stainless, but the other criteria is more important to me. I prefer the price to be under $4,000, but can go higher for the perfect range and company.

Does anyone know if the fratelli has an energy star rating?

    DC Charlotte,
Can you tell me about that little SS strip along the back of the range? Is it removeable? I was thinking of jutting my range out a bit and putting countertop behind it, but if that piece isn't removable, probably not an option. Thank you for any info!
