You can go in either direction. Silver with silver (nickel, stainless, chrome) is just fine.

thanks...so, would you match the chandelier or the faucets when doing sconces?

i matched my chandelier...have polished nickel fixtures and my chandelier is "new mocha" which is brownish, rustish, and silverish all together...i was looking to break up the bright and shiny nickel alittle. i am happy i did, but i didn't put a sconce by/on the sinks/ mirror-had i done that, i might have preferred a cleaner(less ornate)polished nickel sconce.
