Lyptus flooring pics

I know alot of people haven't heard much about Lyptus (eucalyptus) flooring, so thought I'd share.

The installers finished today. I have to go in tomorrow and get it covered up, so took some quick pics tonight. Can't give any reviews on wear and tear yet, obviously, but I will say that I cannot stop grinning every time I look at the stuff. I am SO glad I went with this rather than hickory like I was originally planning. I think the Lyptus fits our house better.

The hearth is set up, but we still need to finish assembling the whole mantel deal:

We have the flooring in the great room, down the hall to the master bdr, and then a small 'shelf' area in the stairwell where there's a window (ie: dust catcher).

    That's a nice floor.

We have the Lyptus engineered hardwood floor by Weyerhauser, about $5/sq. ft. It is gorgeous, but not nearly as hard as claimed, both the finish and the wood. We have 2 dogs and 3 cats who have scratched up many areas, and several dents and chips from dropping things. We also have two nice "tire tracks" in front of the fridge when I had to pull it out to run some wire behind it.

However, I've come to really like the distressed look that it is getting from the pet abuse. It actually is more attractive to me now than when it was brand new. We were looking for a "rustic meets contemporary" look, and it fits in perfectly now. I'll try to get a picture of it up later.

We put it in at a 45 degree angle, which looks fantastic but was an absolute nightmare installing it. Took probably 5-10 times longer that way, with much cursing and gnashing of teeth in the hallways and around cabinets, but the results were worth it.

We also have lyptus cabinets, which seem to be holding up better than the floors.

Here's some stats--We got the Weyerhauser natural finish 4" width 3/4" solid Lyptus. It does have a hardness rating of 2228. For comparison, Mesquite is 2345. Hickory 1820. Hard maple 1450. Red oak 1290.
I come from the thought that if you can't live with the 'patina' of age and use in a wood floor, then you probably shouldn't have wood flooring in your house. So we went with something harder and we will just enjoy how it turns out over time! Oh, and we don't have pets, just three crazy little boys!

Tiling work started today and should be done in a week. I'll post more pics then. Should have the mantel set up at that point too.

Gorgeous floors. I love the color variation. The first two pictures, it appears to have a redness to it but the last looks more natural.

Any updated photos from folks out there with these floors? I like the environmentally friendly nature of them and would love to see more photos before making my final decision.

Fishpants, are you still happy with your lyptus floors? Did the color change much? I'm considering putting same floor in den. It's between lyptus and br111 amendoim.

Great looking floor! What color is that? It's a great neutral with alot of character. Anyone know where to find the janka scale for lyptus?

We installed natural Lyptus about 10 years ago. We have been very happy with the look and durability of it. I will try to attach a picture I took this morning. There’s a lot of variability in the wood, which we like in our older farm house. We installed it after our kids were grown and out on their own so no wear and tear from them however our dog has put some dings in it as he has gotten older. Overall it has held up very well and we are still happy with our decision. I don’t know another person who has it as flooring and I wonder why it hasn’t been more popular.
