Please help. Terrible craftsmanship. Recourse?

I am really in need of help. I am having an issue with the doors and sidelights that I ordered. Would you please read about it here (my construction blog) http://more-adventures.blogspot.com/ and look at the pictures too at the top post of "Front Doors" and tell me if I have any recourse?

Here is the link, if it will make it easier.

I guess in hindsight you know you should have opened the crates and inspected them upon delivery. But it's too late for that now. Since the warrenty is expired, I really doubt there is anything that you can do now. Sorry...they are really pretty doors too.

As a matter of contract, if the products are delivered defective, the supplier has liability. However, trying to prove your case for something you purchased years ago, but never opened will be all but impossible. (I'm not a lawyer.)

I make it a point to open every item I receive and examine it in a bright light before accepting delivery. And count them accurately, no matter how disgruntled the delivery person gets--short of drawing a weapon!

For all anyone knows, you could have been using the doors bought 'years ago' and you did the damage.
I don't see how you can prove otherwise....

Thanks for the responses. Yes, in hindsight, I know that we should have opened the boxes and did an inspection. At the time, we were thinking about the best way to protect them in storage and were thinking that if we didn't disturbed them, there wouldn't be damage. I don't know that it's accurate to say that we purchase them 'years ago' but I did first see them at the home show years ago. We took delivery in 2007 and we first opened them this year soon after the warranty was over (it was a one year warranty). The pictures we sent to the vendor, they can see that the doors/sidelights are in our storage facility with the box/packing material still around them and the films still on the glass. Thanks again for the responses. They settled my mind that it is highly unlikely that we would have any kind of recourse at this point.

Oh, that sucks! Especially since it's an item that you were totally in love with (some things are more personal than others). Those doors are outstanding! I can see your point about the defect being there (staining issues) long before you opened the packages. Can you write the vendor a "nice" letter about how much you love the doors and are so disappointed that you didn't open the package and discover the damage sooner? Tell them you really want to showcase those doors! (You want to flatter the vendor).

I did that when my son cracked the lens on my digital camera (a canon) a month after the warranty expired. And that was my own fault! But I praised the camera and told them how much I loved using it and didn't blame the damage on their company and they offered to fix it for free. And they did. So they have a very happy customer with me.

BTW, I really like your home so far. After all is said and done I hope you and your husband will be very happy in your ranch.
