White or biscuit?

We had to pick the color of our bathroom fixtures/appliances the other day. We went into the appointment thinking we were going to get all white toilets and sinks. We have dark, dark brown cabinets in all the bathrooms. So I was thinking the contrast with a white sink would look nice (and chrome fixtures, of course).

Well, the builder tried to convince us that white looked "institutional" and that everyone is going with biscuit (an off white, not quite tan color). Is this true??

We tentatively went with biscuit in the two upstairs bathrooms and white in the powder room. But we have a week or two to change our minds.

Our last house had biscuit colored fixtures (chosen by previous owner - built in 2002). It looked fine.

Personally, I prefer white. That is what we will have in our new house. I don't think white is institutional (unless you want it to be). I think white looks clean and crisp.

Remember it is your house, so choose what you like!

I asked this same question but can't find the message on GW now. I was set to get white and the lady at the plumbing supply store told me that she thought biscuit would look better since I was going with dark brown stained concrete and a medium brown wood. I ultimately went with white anyway because 1) I like that it looks cleaner TO ME than biscuit (some of the biscuit colors are darker) and 2) it is sometimes harder to match fixtures down the road when biscuit is used. I also stressed over the white vs. biscuit issue when picking out my Fireclay kitchen sink because my cabinets are a creamy white. Again, I went with white and I am glad I did. Good luck with your decision.

My last house where we picked colors, we chose biscuit or bone for everything. Our current home which was new but colors were picked by someone else, they also picked bone. Our new home, I'm going back to white. I'm an HGTV junkie but everything I see is being done in white and I just really like the way it shows against color, very clean and sharp! JMO

It all comes down to personal preference. We have rich brown cabinets in our kitchen and chose bisque appliances. I love the way they blend, and how warm it looks. However in our bathrooms we have white, which really makes the bathrooms look clean and crisp. I really donÂt think you can go wrong either way. Have fun!

I think it all comes down to personal preference. I would not let anyone try to talk you into something though. I would go with something you like.

I like white only because to me is looks clean and crisp. Not to say that I think bisque does not look clean. I just think that the white shows up better against a color. JMO though :-)

I like white because of the contrast. I just like that clean and crisp white against dark walls and cabinets. It pops instead of blending. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

Biscuits are good warm with butter and honey. I like white, but that again is just my preference. The most important thing is that you get what YOU want, not what your builder wants you to get.

"...everyone is going with biscuit (an off white, not quite tan color). Is this true??"

No, it's not true. They probably say that because bisquit costs a lot more than white. Bisquit is nice in certain cases, but I'd say it is used far, far less than white. We have white in all three bathrooms. I really dislike my 1/2 bath toilet (Kohler Memoirs 2 piece - avoid it) and may replace that pedestal sink and toilet, and I'm considering bisquit. But I am happy with color and have white in my two full bathrooms. To me, white is classic and will never go out of style. It may not be trendy (remember harvest gold and avocado in the 60s-70s, pink and grey in the late 80s?), but it will never be dated either. Will bisquit ever look dated? I don't know.

I totally agree with sue36. And she is the first to stress, which I want to also, that biscuit usually cost a heck of a lot more. Just make sure you figure that in to your decision.

How can one be easier to keep clean than the other???
When it needs to be cleaned, it needs to be cleaned.
White all the way, it goes with EVERYTHING!

If you ever have to replace one of your fixtures in the future, matching bisquit might be more difficult.

We went with all white and are happy with that decision.

Thanks everyone! It seems like almost everyone has confirmed what I originally thought. I think white just looks "cleaner" in general. Plus, I'm sure I'll be changing paint colors over the years so white will give me more options.

As far as cost, both biscuit and white were standard options, along with tan. In fact, those are the only 3 colors we had to choose from.

Now I just need to pick tile for the bathrooms. *sigh*

We went with biscuit. I would have called it white until I saw them side by side. The white looks stark white. Too white for me.

"everyone is going with biscuit (an off white, not quite tan color). Is this true??"

    No way.
I wouldn't pay any attention to your builder. I personally prefer white any day of the week, but biscuit or whatever could look good depending on the other elements and your personal preference. Don't let someone pressure you into it, though. That's weird.

txgal, do you have any pictures of your white sink with the creamy cabinets? I'm making this decision right now and I wanted to choose a white enamel sink with my creamy cabinets a a few people have mentioned it wouldn't look right but I'm not convinced. Also, what colour appliances did you choose?

    Thanks!

ajpl, I can pass on a couple if you understand that we are just moving in. The colors on my monitor do not show the difference between the cabinets, which are creamy, and the sink, Rohl Allia in white. The appliances as you can see are stainless.

I think I'd stay away from the "dark, dark brown" for the cabinets. That looks dark, dingy, and dirty. I'd go with something a lot lighter, which would make the bathroom look clean, bright, and airy.

And then white for the fixtures becomes the obvious choice.

Well, we have both: Kohler biscuit and white. The biscuit is in a master bath with a light beige tile and off-white cabnitry and looks like white in place. The white is in the kitchen bath and childrens' baths and looks nice and clean with white subway tile and black accent tile. So, its all about personal preference. As for matching, not all 'whites' are created equal - so you will have to match your white or biscuit if you change things out in future. Good luck with your choice.

Now that its 2018 do you still look back and like the biscuit sink

I ask the same question as I am struggling between white and biscuit as the master bathroom will be open to the master bedroom...

It is 2019, and I like my white sinks in the guest bathroom, and the powder room, and the biscuit ones in our master and kids’ bathroom, that get more abused than the others...
