After much thought we finally have a kitchen design where I actually get to have a hood and a backsplash (yippee).

I have friends who swear by their warming shelves (vent-a-hood) and would love to install one (my picks so far: wolf 30" DF, and either a vent-a hood or a broan 900CFM with the warming lights).

Has anybody installed these warming shelves over a tile or granite backsplash (rather than stainless steel?) On this forum I seem to see folks with either a shelf - or the drop down 'grid' like shelves -but mostly with stainless steel behind. In the Taunton Kitchen design idea book, I did see a picture of one installed over a tile backsplash. I am wondering if anybody here has done that. Is it a pain to clean? I do have a high use kitchen and so ease of cleanup is important.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
