Need appliances_ASAP

Hi everyone,

I am new to this forum, but have been reading it for the past week or so. I am in need of some cooking equipment feedback ASAP. PLEASE HELP!!!!

I am redoing an old (60+) kitchen, which was gutted while I was away on a trip, by DH??!!!! We have been talking about it for several years, but no ACTUAL planning was done. Now I face lots of decisions in a short period of time. So I need all the help I can get.

My main concern is my cooking appliances. I am not locked into a specifie arrangement, but would probably prefer separate components, gas range top/elec oven, although would like some feedback on dual fuel ranges, plus a hood My budget is probably rather low ($4-5,0000). Can probably bump it a bit for quality if needed. Naturally, I want the best I can get for the money.

My one absolute is a grill unit in my range or cook top.

Can any one help me narrow my options and provide some info on brands that I might be happy with.

Cooking requirements---Some baking, little roasting as I prefer to grill, High and low heat burners, as I do cajun and creole cooking (roux as well as delicate cream sauces).

PLEASE HELP with your experiences. Time is of the essence, need to order BEFORE I go nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

CC

    You need to clairify this

Wolf makes one of the best grills, put that into your Wolf DF range and you''d be a happey camper. That is one hot grill. I have it ,love it , and use the heck out of it. Wolf is not inexpensive.

You need to consider ventilation- a hood over the cook top. Important if you are grilling. Something in the order of 900 CFM cubic feet /minute.

    Be prepared for sticker shock.

    Have fun

Reminds me of the old saying "be careful what you wish for, for you surely will get it!"

In this price range, I would encourage you to use Consumer Reports as a starting point. They aren't so helpful with high-end, more esoteric brands, but with mid-grade appliances (the GEs, Kenmores, Whirlpools of the world) the info seems to be solid. You can get an online subscription (website access only) for not much money. I would look there.

That said, if your price range is $4-5K just for a range, you might want to look at Blue Star -- I don't have one but there is lots of talk about them on this website, people who do have them seem to love them (and they come in lots of cute colors too--I would love a red stove!!)

    Good luck.

i hope 4-5000 isnt your total budget because you'll also need to buy a pretty substantive hood to make this work safely. I'd wager that the range will break your budget all by itself, if not the hood will put those 2 over...you should probably either move your budget to 8-10k or abanadon the grill idea its not practical and going cheap is almost impossible

    Thanks all for your replies.
Joboxes...That budget is only for the "Cooking" appliance. Hood is not included.

outonalimb... that could have been my username at this point. Thanks for the info. The budget is just for range or cooktop/oven. Know I will have to have blower, but don't want to address that until the other decision is made. Yes, I would agree, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!!!

john.com Thanks for the input. Will check out Wolf.

    Any more ideas or suggestions????

This forum has a wealth on info, but it can be overwhelming when you are pushed to make a choice.

Why are you sure you want a grill in your kitchen?
I had one once, and they make a huge mess.
You can get an expensive exhaust fan, of course. I have a wonderful one, a Vent a Hood. But, they too have to be cleaned. Not my favorite chore. I do not like to climb while holding grease. And, the grease is up there until you remove it, and not odor free. So, even with a Vent a Hood, I will do my grilling outside.

We put our grill outside too, just steps from the kitchen. If the weather is really awful, we plan to use the awesome infrared broiler in our range. We have a DCS all gas range, all burners, and are very pleased with it.

For a rangetop or dual fuel range, be sure to look at GE Monogram, as these are made for GE by DCS.

I would recommend looking at a rangetop and separate double wall ovens in order to keep your pricing as close to budget as possible and still end up with a cooktop that will give you professional potential/results. Rangetop brands to look at would be Wolf, Bluestar, and GE Monogram IMO. Also, I have the GE Monogram pro-style wall ovens (not Trivection) and I really do love them. Great ovens at a good price point. Fisher-Paykel ovens are also excellent for the price point. For a powerful range hood (which will be essential with the indoor grill), I'd look at Ventahood, Broan, Independent brands with 600 cfm minimum (900+ optimal). This should be doable for $7K or less (including range hood). When I was shopping, the upper-end dual fuel ranges were very pricey.
