Kenmore Slide-In Induction Range

I imagine this has already been covered somewhere on the forum but I froze my computer the other night with too many tabs open so I won't try that again!

I'm trying to make sense of all the induction freestanding options. I accidentally found that Sears also makes Kenmore Slide-In Induction Range. The controls appear to be in the front. The others have the controls on the back. Am I understanding the description correctly?

The freestanding is this one

I really, really want controls on the front.

Here is a link that might be useful: Kenmore Slide-In Induction Range

I have the Kenmore slide-in range. From what I understand, slide-ins always have their controls in the front and freestanding ranges usually have their controls in the front.

OK, wish my brain would work. What I meant to say is that freestanding ranges usually have their controls in the back. Sorry!

Not to worry. I knew what you meant the first time. Is there anything about the design that you don't like? I don't like reaching across the cooking food to adjust the temp. Men must have designed those. Do your oven racks slide ok? I've seen that mentioned a few times.

Wellllll sort of. The most you can say right this week is that slide in induction ranges usually have their oven controls at the front and free standing induction ranges usually have their oven controls on the back panel.

    >I don't like reaching across the cooking food to adjust the temp. Men must have designed those.

While I hear you, it is a little safer with children around to have the controls where they aren't so reachable. However, with induction it's not so much of an issue since nothing happens if there's no pot on the burner and most of them have locks, anyway.

Children can be instructed to keep their hands off the stove. My parents said I'd burn myself if I put my hands on the burners. I never did. I believed them.

Remember, the hob will not turn on if there is no pan on it. You can poke buttons all day and nothing will happen. Also, the surface of the range is not very hot after a pan is removed. Much safer, in my mind. The range will also automatically turn the hob off after the pan is removed. This is important for people who get distracted with other cooking/serving tasks. Ask me how I know.

But will it remind me I'm cooking something? THAT'S my problem. I wander off and ..........oops! I smell burning! Or at least I hope I do. I've gotten a whif half way from the barn before. Gingersnaps! At least they smell good on the breeze and it did jiggle my memory that I had them in the oven. I was able to rescue them and found that baking them a few minutes longer was really better.

that's why MEN (ahem) invented the countdown timer.

Yeah, for sure one of them invented the timer on this Amana I have. It pings ONCE when the time is up. My OLD stove timer just kept ringing until I wandered out to see what was happening.

Oh, you just hit on the biggest gripe we have on this range--the timer. It beeps loud, waits, beeps loud, waits. That thing never gives up! Annoying. My yard is small enough that I hear it out there!

The Samsung stand alone has its cooktop controls in front.

But I NEED the buzzer to stay going until I do something about it. The pitiful ping of the Amana doesn't register most of the time. ONE ping. I can't even hear it a room away.
I think I overlooked slide in when I first started investigating. I didn't know exactly what they were but I did know what freestanding was so concentrated on those. The Samsung has Star Wars lights on the back thing. Is all the adjusting done on the pad in front? I want to get away from reaching over boiling food.
