Tub spout diameter problem: help please!

The guys are making huge progress on our project, but an issue arose yesterday.

I chose the Moen Brandford Garden tub faucet to go on our Kohler Devonshire tub -- problem, though, is that the faucet's base diameter is too large to fit on the width of the tub ledge. I wanted it mounted just in the traditional place -- middle of the short side on the drain end of the tub. They're ready to install the faucet except for this problem.

One suggestion was to install the faucet on the inside corner, but I don't want to do that. First, I don't care personally for the look on such a small tub. Second, placing it in the oval really compromises the usefulness of its spout depth.

DH went web-crawling last night and found a Moen Chateau Roman tub faucet whose specs are a 4.48 diameter spout. I'll check with the fellows today to see if that would be small enough.

Anyone know of faucet(s) I should consider? I'm doing Polished Chrome finish on classic style faucets.

I'm willing to consider doing a wall mount faucet for the tub but because it will come out of the pony wall, its spout length needs to be pretty considerable.

thanks so much!
