Hi,
We are doing a whole kitchen remodel with hardwood floors and stain grade wood cabinets. We have to buy all new appliances and have narrowed down to these (we want quiet appliances that do a fairly good job)
Kitchen layout background: gas cooktop, microwave (in cabinet above next to cooktop), refrigerator will be in line. In front of that wall of appliances is an island (5'x6') will be the under counter oven. We are going for a contemporary /transistional simple look - Getting stainless steel appliances.
Our background: we have one kid, sometimes parents visit. Only I cook and am not a gourmet cook. Just cook to live! Tastes ok.
Dishwasher: We rinse our dishes before we put them in the dishwasher. Run it a couple times a week
Oven: Hardly use an oven - only to broil kid's fish or a piece of meat (one serving, just for the kid), bake a few cookies every few months (just for the kid). However when we have a big party then I use it to warm(350 degrees and then down to 175 or so and keep it) all the precooked dishes all ready to be served an hour after they come.
Microwave: Use it every day to heat up pre-cooked food.
Range: Cook stir frys, curries, boil eggs etc.
So here are my choices:
Dishwasher:
Bosch: SHE7ER55SS
Miele: G5105SCSS
Wine refrigerator:
Perlick C-Series HC24WBSS (was told they are the people for wine ref.)
GE Monogram ZDWI240WII
GE ZDWT240P (like the privacy glass)
Consumer Reports says the quiet ones are (not sure I should trust them)
GE Monogram ZDWR240PABS
Avanti WECR510DZBSS
Kenmore 9913
GE Profile PWRO4FANBS
Microwave: one of the GE Spacemakers easy to replace if it konks out!
GE PEM31SR
GE JEB1860SM
GE PEB1590SM
Refrigerator: want Frenchdoor, bottom freezer - Counter Depth (36" wide is fine) - don't need outside ice dispenser, inside cold water dispenser also not needed but nice to have. So just need an icemaker in the freezer)
GE Profile: PFCS1NFZSS (don't like the coke bottle rack at the bottom - we don't drink the coke so can't use it for anything - maybe i'll find something to put in there) Only reason went with this was the original layout had the wall mounted microwave, oven and refrigerator next to each other, so wanted to match handles)
Others - I came across while reading GW are
KA KFCS22EVMS
Samsung RFG238AARS XAA (some talked about ice buildup and long time to fill water)
Oven:
GE PT916SRSS or
Single/Double Oven GEPT925SNSS (pricey but thought worth it if I ned to only use the top part of the oven and doors open don't occupy too much space - putting it under counter in the island) Now a little scared after reading the "Major Flaw" review where you can short circuit the controls if you spill something on the door!) Also some also reviewed about the cooling being LOUD. So when when company comes once I serve dishes and turn the oven off will it be LOUD for a few hours! Not sure if this will help - since this oven will be under the counter in my island - can I vent it into the crawl space below so it won't heat up the kitchen or blow on the guest's legs when walking around the island.
Cooktop:
Bosch: NEM8654 (Total BTU 595,000) - This I have read consistent good reviews - so this is the only choice I am comfortable with as of today.
Sink:
Franke ORX110 - need to decide on how many holes I need behind the sink and how much space that occupies in the cabinet below!. So far I have the garbage button, Insta-heat and room temp water faucet, soap dispenser. So under the cabinet I have a garbage disposal, EverPur water filter, soap dispenser.
Hood:
I am totally confused with inline blower, duct size, remote blower, external blower, silencer, soles- need to read more before I can make an educated buy. All I know is that read GW someone pointed that KOBE RA9SQB and I read it and it says it has QuiteMode feature which allows it to operate at 42 decibels at 280cfm (maybe since I use just one or two elements most of the time this is good enough?) It also says that the fan operates at Low(420cfm) Medium (580 cfm) and High (760 cfm) at a maximum of 62decibels. I have also looked at Bausch catalog which specify decibels of 54bba for their wall mounted models (DKE9665PUC, DKE9465MUC)
Thanks for all your help. Thanks for reading such a long post. Have never posted before, but read GW religiously! great website.
