I am not sure what you would call it. I just want to get away from the cottage/country vibe. The floors are going to be replaced with dark handscraped wood. Let me take and repost a better pic leading into my familyroom. Thanks.

I would say look at metal chairs - wrought iron - even something from the outdoor furniture department.

Simple Upholstered Linen Chairs or Slipcovered Upholstered Chairs would look good too, I think, maybe with your existing decor, the sliver of it that I can see....

Hi Home Diva! Yes, this is rather an iconic table for a cottage look that you're trying to get away from. So why not go ahead and paint it to give it a facelift/new look? I've seen this table painted black or dark brown, surrounded by non-cottage looking chairs and it takes on a whole new vibe....even towards contemporary.

Hard to see on the picture, but it appears you have several other cottage-styled furnishings...like your coffee table, for example. What are your plans to incorporate your living room space into your 'away from cottage look" dining area? Since these two rooms open to each other, you'll want to get a cohesive look figured out before you choose your dining chairs.

I was also going to suggest painting table black & louis ghost chairs... First thing I thought when I saw the pic & then had a laugh when others had suggested the same thing :)

I think painting the table a dark brown and then get some banana leaf dining chairs. they will be comfortable and still give you a comfortable feel. It isn't that hard to refinish a table, I did mine when I was 7 months pregnant!

I agree it would look great painted darker but neither I nor my husband are artsy so painting is something I know if we did ourselves, would wind up looking worse than when we started. Thank you for all the ideas. I love these chair ideas. We will wind up replacing the whole thing when we move, I just wanted something to get us by until then. Thanks again.

I PROMISE it is not not hard to paint that table, you should not be intemidated. All you need is the right tools and prep, go to a GOOD home store or paint store and they will be happy to help you. But I think the banana chairs would go with the table as is as well.
