Dishwasher Leak

Do you have a GE dishwasher leak the serviceman can't fix?

My 5yr old GE Model GSD5500 was occasionally leaking a little water onto the floor. It got my serious attention when it worsened and the floor was being damaged. I could not find the source by inspection with the bottom panels removed. It was not the door gasket. A local service professional listened to my description and said she could not help, that it was a common problem that GE did not have an answer for (!). I pulled the unit and discovered a leaking seal where the water supply line (Part #571) for the sprayarm (Part #570) enters the top of the dishwasher cabinet, under the insulation blanket. This connection is so poorly designed it is bound to fail, and leak, when the sealant ages. The end of the supply hose entering the cabinet is a soft flexible plastic flanged elbow pushed through a hole in the cabinet top, and secured only by the gummy sealant. There is no mechanically secure union with the sprayarm assembly underneath. It can be easily fixed by making a washer 1/16 to 3/32in thick with a hole the size of the flanged elbow outlet hole, and diameter to fit into the recess in the sprayarm assembly, and placing it between those parts when reassembling them. This provides a secure mechanical clamp for the elbow flange to the underside of the cabinet. Rework the gummy sealant and put some back on the joint as a backup. (a couple of thin metal washers under the two small screws holding everything together will prevent further distortion of the screw holes in the plastic cabinet top.)

If your washer has parts like this it is going to leak sooner or later!,SHAME ON GE FOR SUCH A POOR DESIGN! I hope this helps you, your serviceman and GE may not! ................. DaveS
