buying an induction range

I can't find any here in Iowa. I'd really like to see one in person before I order one! Sears said they didn't know which of their stores had one but I should call and ask. Duh! Best Buy doesn't have any in stock that I can find. This seems so idiotic to me I can't even fathom that it's happening! I'm ready to spend thousands of dollars but no retailer cares? I've emailed GE and Samsung to see if they know where their products are sold. Anyone have any ideas how I can track one down?

My local Sears did not have the Kenmore slide-in on the floor, but did have a nice display for the free-standing Kenmore induction range. I was told that all Sears stores have the same displays so don't bother driving to another Sears store to see it.

I went to a Great Indoors store (upscale store owned by Sears) to see the induction slide-in model.

My local Sears store does not have any induction ranges on display. However, one a bit farther away has both of the Kenmores and the GE (FairOaks, VA).

Sigh.........GE wasn't any help either unless you think giving me a list of stores that carry GE is help. I replied to Sears asking for a list of stores in Iowa so I could start calling but I guess Sears is too busy to do that for me. Samsung must be closed for a long weekend. No reply at all from them. So they think that kind of customer service is good enough. And I'm over a barrel if I want an induction range. Either I can buy one sight unseen or I can go without.
I suppose I'd better hunt up all the threads on here about induction ranges, print them off, and sift through for things people liked and didn't like and try to decide what I want. And then I will order from the induction site since I got more help there than anywhere. Their prices are the same as everywhere else.

do you want a slide-in or free-standing? I think your chances of seeing a Kenmore free-standing are pretty good at any Sears store.

Why don't you just call a few stores and ask them if they have them on display?

    Hi pinch,

Go to Sears.com and use the "find a store" link in the upper right. You can get a list of stores in IA with their phone numbers...you'll have to do a lot of calling to find one that has the ranges but it's probably the easiest way to research it. There are a few reviews on the Sears site too.

I saw the Kenmore and GE freestanding induction ranges in a Sears in NH recently. I have to say that I wasn't impressed with the Kenmore. The door had sharp metal edges and I nearly cut myself when closing it...this left me with a poor impression of the build quality. I also didn't like the hob arrangement. Between the two, I would buy the GE. JMO.

    Warmfridge,

My husband noted the same thing on the weekend and was surprised it was for sale like that. I am waiting for the Electrolux slide in to arrive, to check it out and then decide if we want a range or a cooktop & oven combo.

christie327, were you looking in NH also or is this two different ranges with sharp edges? I'll head to the nearest Sears on Saturday. Maybe it's a good thing I'm having this much trouble besides the fact I've spent all my money for a while. Wouldn't it be awful if someone had a super sale and I couldn't scrape the cash together? I really, really didn't want to put anything on the credit card and the remodel hasn't even started yet.

I've seen another review (? on the Sears site) that mentions sharp edges on the Kenmore, so I don't think this is just one defective range.

Are the sharp edges you speak of on the free-standing? I have the slide-in (for 1 week) and haven't noticed any sharp edges.

I used the convection bake the other day to make peanut butter cookies (2 sheets at a time) and they came out PERFECT (no rotating or turning of the cookie sheets were necessary!).

PS: I did not care for the burner set-up on the Kenmore free-standing -- the two front burners are very close together. The slide-in had a more normal burner set-up. I am able to use a 12" and a 10" skillet on both front burners at the same time.

The sharp edges are on the outside top corners of the oven. My is sharp too, but I have other issues to worry about. The oven door only presents a problem when it is open.
