Anyone use SmartSide Panels?

Hi. I'm considering using SmartSide 4x8 panels on our home. Do any of you have any experience with it?

For a little background, our house is one story, with a front porch all the way across the front. It's going to be a comfortable, country home - nothing fancy. It's a basic 33x70 rectangle with the front porch added and back porch and carport. It is in a rural, wooded area.

I've seen several threads on the SmartSide lap siding, but none on the sheets. Here's a link to the actual product we are looking at:

We used them on our porch ceiling, with SmartTrim "strapping" to give a coffered look. (We also have SmartSide lap siding and trim.) We think it turned out great!

We used them for interior walls in our bonus room. A lot of people around here use them on garden sheds and shops. I think they would work fine on a house but I am no expert.

It worked out perfect for our walls. I looked for a pic and I can't find one. I'll take one this week. I think those panels would work fine on the porch ceilings.

LP makes a cheaper version for Home Depot which should be avoided IMO.

I've never cared for the strong embossed wood grain on SmartSide but if you want a rough-sawn appearance it should be fine.

Carefully work out the detailing at the tops of the panels and at the window heads; panel siding can be a challenge to install properly. Don't just rely on your contractor; draw the derails.

Mommytoc do you have a picture of the ceiling you did? I'd like to see it.
I'm looking for wood shiplap alternatives for our porch ceiling that looks like wood or shiplap.
