Need help deciding which Kitchenaid mixer color!
Comments (23)hi onthefence, thanks! Yes, I would love to share more details. I have been planning on taking some more pictures of the whole kitchen and putting them on houzz, complete with tags of the products/materials we used. I keep telling myself I'd take some nice pictures after cleaning up the kitchen, but ever since we finished the remodel we've just been enjoying using it. I'll update this thread once I get the details on Houzz. I'll see if I can make some progress this weekend....See MoreDo kitchen cabinets have to go?
Comments (65)Ok, so now I'm feeling very spoiled because I have an appliance pantry off the kitchen that holds all the items you two just mentioned. We went through the wall into a storage space we had at the rear of the garage and aside from the concealed sliding door to garage we built in a space for the convection microwave and all other appliances, some on the counter some in cupboards. On the wish-list now are some slide out drawers inserted in the cupboards as the slow cooker, sandwich press etc. are quite heavy and sometimes need to be moved to access other items. I never realised how many appliances I had until I was planning my kitchen renovation. It makes me feel for our forebears who had to endure mountains of manual labour....See MoreWhich Kitchen Aid Mixer color should I get??? :-)
Comments (38)I have white, and it has looked good in every kitchen I have owned. I'm going to pipe in my 2 cents though...the link you posted was to a tilt model I believe. If you keep your mixer on a counter with a cabinet above it that is standard height you will have to pull it out from under the cabinets to tilt the head back. With the bowl lift that isn't a problem. Just something to think about, for me after owning a bowl life model it's the only kind I would own. Also, mine is about 10 years old and is part of the "heavy duty" line. A bit less expensive that your link, so hopefully that means better quality. A few years back the oil in the machine started breaking down and dripping grease. When we ripped it down we discover that they now use plastic parts for some of the gears, and upon further research I learned that there are some issues with gears breaking if you try to mix something that you just don't have enough torque to. So, do you homework and buy one with no plastic gears if you can afford it. Also, after 10 years mine makes a burning smell when I do bread dough in it, so I think I'll be the next one asking for a mixer color recommendation, not all new kitchenaides last forever......See Morewhat do you put under your coffee pot to protect Corian counters?
Comments (32)Joe- I don't know what that stone institute is recommending and why, and if it is only a CYA having to do with cosmesis, or scratching or chipping due to soapstone's softness in case someone drops the hot pot, or if the pan you put on the soapstone is rough on the bottom like cast iron, that would scratch the soft soapstone. Soapstone is heat resistant and will not burn. Haven't we spent years burning the bejeebers out of things in labs on soapstone tables? Sopastone has been used for wood-burning stoves and has been used to line fireplaces, and hearths and was used to create electric panels. Soapstone electrical panels: Remains of the original 1907 soapstone control panel of the Cos Cob Power Plant near Greenwich, Connecticut. Thick slabs of soapstone were often used to hold high-voltage equipment and wiring because soapstone is heat resistant and does not conduct electricity.
