Range hood help needed please.

I have read all the previous posts about range hoods and I'm still overwhelmed. This is for a new build and the 3.5"x10" duct work is already in and vented to the soffit outside. I'm planning on getting the GE Profile 36" cooktop. The vent will be mounted inside a custom 48" cabinet. The cabinet is basically hollow inside. I really don't want to spend more than $500 for a vent and liner if I don't have too. I don't fry anything (except browning ground beef) and I don't use oil to brown meat either.

I have looked at the Broan power pack RMP17004 w/ the RML7048S liner, but that is $800. Is it possible to get an undercabinet hood (the kind that you can see) such as the Broan Elite 644804 and mount it into the custom cabinet? I know I can't use one that has vents or controls on the outside (the Elite does not). Is there any reason that would not work?

Thanks for any suggestions!
