wolf pizza stone - is it worth it???

hello all,

just purchased a wolf wall oven and would like to make pizza in it, since it has the feature and always wanted to do it.

is the pizza stone worth it? or can i use my pampered chef stone. i think the stone runs about $100 or so

if anyone has it, do u like it and would u buy again?

any info would be much appreciated,

You don't need either item.

Go to your local home center, and buy some unglazed quarry tiles--they'll cost you a fraction of the cost of a big name stone, and will give you the same excellant results. Just set the tiles on your oven rack, leaving an inch or 2 of space around the outside edge. You need to preheat thoroughly, of course, and like any stone, you cannot put frozen food on hot tiles. Besides being way, way cheaper, tiles have the added advantage that if one breaks (and stones and tiles DO break now and then) it's inexpensive to replace. Also easier to store.

I've been using quarry tiles for baking for over 30 years. Do have a couple of stones that people have given me, but I much prefer the tiles.

How did you know that unglazed quarry tiles ewre food safe?

I have been considering them but not sure about safety.

I have been making pizza for years on a round metal pizza pan. Husband just bought the wolf stone for me. What a difference in the crust. The only thing I have to work on is putting enough flour on the large flipper so that it slides smoothly onto the stone. Otherwise...I love it.

Irishtess--try a bit of cornmeal, rather than flour--the cornmeal acts like ball bearings and your crust will just roll off the pizza peal onto the stone. Flour doesn't work that way.

I second Azzalea's suggestion. The tiles make amazing pizzas. For photos see the recent thread where I posted some pics.I don't know for certain that the quarry tile is food safe, but the pizza certainly isn't on their long enough to pick up many contaminants if it is not. I probably get more exposure to lead from the clay plant pots I own.

For half of the money, the Emile Henry baking stone does a great job and is easier to clean up. I use mine for cold Hors d'oeuvres (put it into the freezer to chill). There are a few cool colors available. This stone is also safe on the grill.

I have the Wolf pizza stone and love it! We use it at least once a week. Makes the best pizza...crispy crust with soft tender dough inside. Definitely worth it in my opinion!

Can you leave your wolfe stone in the oven while baking other items, on the racks?

Yes you can but I usually take mine out in case something spills on it from above.

Where can you find the Wolf Pizza Stone? My retailer that sold me the Wolf last year doesn't have it and sent us to a website and they don't have it either. We live in MA
