I Was Wrong

Last week I started what became a lively discussion about etiquette and attitudes, after a young couple couple came by my house with a pre-printed note requesting that the neighbors avoid making noise during their wedding ceremony which was to be held at her uncle's house down the block. They also informed us there would be cars parking along our streets.

Well. I was ruffled, stated so and then the hilarity ensued online :). The wedding was this past Saturday and since I said I'd send a follow up report and for those who can't guess from the title...

I was completely wrong. There were *no* cars parked in my yard or even along our end of the block. There was no noise, from the neighbors at least although the wedding reception music could be heard, faintly, till late at night. Not enough to disturb me or anyone else I would imagine.

And most of all I was wrong, as several people (cough*lisa*cough) pointed out, to get so wound up over such a trivial matter. If the goal of life is to keep learning then I suppose I am meeting it. Here at the mid-century mark of my life I'm still working on educating myself to relax, let life happen and not sweat the small stuff.

But because I was adamant in my indignation I wouldn't feel right unless I 'fessed up here publically. So now I have!

No harm, no foul. We all have bad days.

    Happy New Year!

    Good for you!!! Bravo!

    Awesome post, running!

Two thumbs up! You've handled the previous thread gracefully and you're woman enough to own up to what you perceive as a short coming. I'm glad it ended up a non-event...WHEW!

Now that is Grace, my friends. Thanks for reporting back, Ann!

I'm glad for you and your neighbors that it didn't turn into the circus that you feared it would. Right about now I'm just jealous that anyone in this country can be outside without freezing their tush off. Happy New Year, hope it's a good one!

Grace rising alert. I am pleased everything went well. You live in a classy neighborhood, right where you belong!

What a great person you are !! I think it was good that you felt comfy enough to vent about it here, and you were entitled to, you had doubts and voiced
    them.

    What a great post. :)

Its title contains, IMO, the three hardest words to utter in the English language.

Grace, OTOH, is a word (one of my favorites) that is only bestowed in the most special of circumstances, and this is certainly one of them. Here, it applies to both the OP, and, hopefully, to the subsequent posters.

I'm relieved the wedding went well and there was no damage, emotional or property.

Cheers to you, Ann, and my wishes for a very happy new year!

Geesh... if you can't be cranky and rude online with imaginary friends, where can you ??? ;-)

Ann I'm so glad it all worked out well and as woo-woo, new-age, weirdo as this may sound, I believe your positive attitude and energy from the experience ripples out to that young couple - that's a great gift.

A brillant thoughtful post -- a very big hug and pat on the back to you! :)

Well done indeed! To you And to the Happy Newlyweds too! :)

    Grace. Period.

    Beautiful.

I'm (almost) speechless! Any more nice comments and I might be tempted to actually admit to my husband when I'm wrong. Whoa, better sit down quietly till the thought passes...

Seriously, thank you everyone for such wonderful and kind feedback. Online, and in real life, it's all too easy for me to get my back up and it's often hard to back down, as it were.

Now to think, what else have I been wrong about that I should admit to? My husband would probably love to hear all about it!

I'm glad everything went well for all involved. How was the weather down where you are? I used to live in Tampa and Sarasota, and heard from my pals down there that it Plunged into the fifties! It was in the 20s with 50mph wind up here, so I didn't have too much sympathy for them. LOL.

I am so glad that everything took place w/o a hitch. And you are full of "Grace" to be so honest about the whole thing. I could definitely learn from your example. c

Glad it all worked out Ann, that sure was a lively thread wasn't it? I'm always amazed to see all the different points of view. I hope their wedding was everything they wanted it to be.....an they all lived happily ever after....

Awesome post. Happy it all went okay!

Sometimes the younger generation *isn't* as horrible as the older generation (the uncle who lacked social skills) would lead us to suspect :) I'm just glad you added that you could faintly hear the music, because I was afraid that maybe you didn't have any issues because the wedding got called off...

Lovely---but don't get carried away as far as DH goes-take a few deep breaths whenever the urge strikes and wait until it passes...teehee.

Glad it all worked for the neighborhood and the wedding couple.

I'm relieved to find that all went well. Aren't you glad that sweet couple never knew your frustration and that you vented to us - your *imaginary* friends. :)

Now, don't go confessing things to your husband - he's not *imaginary* and might use it against you! lol

Glad you had the guts to post that you were wrong. We all are, at some time. :)

Ann I'm happy it all went well, but honey, don't go overboard...you'll start a fad (telling dh's that you were wrong) and my dear...you're not gonna be popular with the ladies after that!!! Should the urge hit you again, put some gin in your tea cup and drink until it passes :) For all of us!

    >How was the weather down where you are?

46 degrees this morning--yikes. This is officially what my husband and I refer to as 'death cold' weather...believe me, those of you who live up north may laugh but for a Miamian this is sheer icy misery. Thing is, our houses, clothes, offices etc are not designed for cold. For example, my office building that does not have heat. So, yesterday the temp inside my office was 63. Some colleagues on the north side of the building, with big glass windows, had offices that never got above 54 degrees. I've only got a few items of clothing that are warm enough. My house isn't insulated. And so on.

I know, I know, not much sympathy for us shivering sunbelters from those who deal with REAL death cold, but oh how we're suffering. And this cold snap is going to last unusually long, for most of the week. Generally when we do get chilly weather it's a couple of days then back to sunny normal. The weather forecaster actually said there is a small chance of *snow* as far south as Orlando later this week(!).

As for admitting wrongdoing to a husband, no worries. When and if the urge strikes, I will just sit quietly thinking of decorating projects till the urge passes :).

And to tie this back to the original topic--the wedding party was very lucky. They squeezed in their special day literally hours before the cold snap arrived. I actually worried a little bit for the bride but as noted, everything worked out perfectly for them.

Whew! am relieved to hear you won't admit you are wrong to your DH. That would break the code! I admire your willingness to offer up the idea that you were in the wrong. Takes guts kid! and grace.

Ann, I had to laugh at your post! Not laughing that the wedding went off without disturbing unduly the neighborhood, because I did think that that was a very real possibility and wouldn't have been surprised to read that your bouganvilla was crushed by a Volvo.........No.......I laughed because you are like me. I may rant and fume and carry on all sorts of foolishness about something, but if it turns out that I was wrong and misjudged something or someone, I then can't rest until I make sure that anyone whose ears are still burning from my histrionics, knows, that I made a mistake. That confession thing and taking responsibility for being so bent out of shape, enables me to clear the slate and do it all again next week!

    Glad it went well...

I'll throw in my kudos for admitting you were wrong. I have no trouble admitting I'm wrong when I am, which is all to often! I particularly made sure I admitted when I was wrong when my kids were involved. The message I've always wanted to communicate was that I'm human, and so are they. As humans, we are sometimes wrong, we make mistakes. Admitting that should carry no shame. What is shameful to me is insisting you are right or simply ignoring the fact that you made a mistake.

In my job, I have also been free about admitting a mistake. I find that people who can't admit that they've made a mistake are trying to cover up for their lack of knowledge or skill. People who are confident that they are doing a good job are usually the first ones to admit when they've done something wrong. So, it's important to keep an eye on those who purport to be mistake free. They are the ones who are going to end up making a huge blunder that will REALLY mess things up.

Anyway, I'm glad everything turned out well for the couple and for the neighborhood.
