Help me choose the curtains for this gigantic window in my very modern minimalist kitchen

Do you need curtains for light control or privacy?

I like a rod hung high and wide so when the panels are open the whole window/door is clear.

the clip rigs are easily attached and you can get a drapery wand to hang on the end for easy opening and closing.

I like a bit of light control but it doesn't have to be alot. What color would be a good choice

The color in Lyn’s sample above - something that blends easily with your wall color. Looking at your walls, I think I would choose a little lighter tone.

you are limited IF you buy off the rack. The measurement is most important. Length 84" or more. and at least double the width of the opening, they come standard sizes 84" 96", 50" width... so you may have to get TWO sets to get the fullness you need.

Something neutral, light, similar to the wall color so not to add another contrasting color to an already dark space.

That's a door not a window. Looks like you have small children so I would not suggest draperies. Personally I think they are going to just get in the way and be dirty a lot. For a minimalist look I have a solar shade with a wood valance over it to hide the mechanism.

This is the valance I have but with a power operated shade that rolls up under it. (Not verticals)

I have grandchildren but they dont live with me. The shade is it one piece that you put up during the day?

Whatever you choose, make sure it is the same color as your walls or close to for a more minimalist look. If no children, go with draperies. If kids are an issue, and you do not care about light control but want privacy, Privacy film ( good quality that won't affect any warranties etc) will be superior here as it keeps the minimalist no drape/no curtain Look while maintaining some privacy. You might have to find the proper film/cling that will not let you be visible both in the daytime or night time.

Offering a caution about blinds vs. curtains/drapes: since you have grandchildren visiting occasionally, I would not go with blinds. Curtains/drapes would be much more forgiving as far as rough handling and dirty fingers.

For a big window in a minimal kitchen, keep it architectural. Mount the track on the ceiling or as close to it as possible and run it well past the window frame so the panels stack off the glass when open. Sheer linen or a linen blend in white or warm off white, floor length, simple ripplefold pleats. No rods with finials, no tiebacks, no patterns. And keep the panels clear of the cooktop and sink. If you need real privacy or glare control, layer a motorized roller shade underneath that disappears into a pocket.

@Kristi Holmes yes it is a solar shade that we put up in the morning and down at night. It works with a recharable wand. Our slider is 8 ft wide and oringinally we had 2 shades but 2 years ago it needed replacing so we have 1 now.

For kitchens I'd keep it simple and easy to wash: cafe curtain in cotton or linen. Pick a light, plain fabric or a small pattern. If the window is a main light source, sheer panels let the daylight in.
