Final Appliance List-Comments?

Hi all,

We have just today finished (so we hope) finalizing our appliance list for our kitchen remodel. We would love to hear any comments, and all feedback is appreciated.

Range-30 inch All Gas Wolf

Hood-36 inch Zephyr Venezia

Dishwasher-Bosch 500 series

Refrigerator-Sub Zero BI-36U over/under; pro handles

My two concerns are the following:

1.) Should we spring for a Miele dishwasher? Is it worth the extra cost over the Bosch? Durability, reliability and robust construction are MUST for us.

2.) Are baffle filters an absolute must for a pro range? While the Zephyr doesn't have them, I've had baffle filters in the past, and didn't find them to be necessary, since we don't do cooking that produces much smoke.

    1) Miele is not slightly better than Bosch but vastly better. Robust contruction is not even close. Short term reliability is similar but long term durability and reliablity is far superior.

2)If you don't find baffle filters necessary how can they be an absolute must? Baffle filters are more efficient and quiter at high speeds. Mesh filters are better at low speeds, say under 250 cfm. The rule of thumb, not building code, is you want 1cfm for every 100btu. It does not have to do with "pro style" per se.

Have you at least looked at Capital Culinarian and Bluestar RNB?

    IMO

    1) Capital Culinarian

    2) Bluestar RNB

If you have to have red knobs) Wolf AG.

Lastly, Sub-Zero BI-36U is top notch.

We have decided to go with the Miele Futura Classic, as we absolutely hate having to individually place each piece of flatware ont the cutlery tray. You (along with what seems like everyone else on GW) are absolutely right-the fit and finish on the Miele, along with its unparalleled reliability record, are not matched by the Bosch.

As originally planned, we aren't going with baffle filters. Zephyr it is.

As for the Bluestar and CC, we looked at both, and while I loved the Bluestar, my husband was not so keen on the idea of completely open burners. As for the CC, we enjoyed the way it performed, but were not so fond of its aesthetics, and again, the completely open burner makes us cringe a bit.

    Thanks for your response!

    Good luck with your choices.

"We have decided to go with the Miele Futura Classic, as we absolutely hate having to individually place each piece of flatware onto the cutlery tray."

We've had our Miele Optima for 5 years now, and have YET to place each piece of flatware "Individually" on the cutlery tray. I just toss them up there, No biggie, and when it come times to retrieve them, sure is a lot easier that "fooling around" with that old cutlery basket, like my former K A.had.
Easier on the back too, and ya grabs what ya wants, I usta grab a knife, by the "business end" Ouchhhh, using that old style cutlery tray.

Alas Your deed is done, but sorry you got the idea that you had to place each piece of cutlery separately, I guess if you're a perfectionist you can do that, but my "Helter Skelter method works great and the cutlery always comes out clean!

In fact, I had never heard of Miele before buying the Optima, and would have gone with a KA again, except back in 2005, only Miele had the Cutlery Tray up on top, still Luv it!
