need help finding remote blower for Independent insert

After searching around, I just read that Independent has gone out of business. Unfortunately, I have already bought an Independent vent hood insert that is sitting in my garage. Was wondering if anyone can recommend a different brand of remote blower that would work with my liner? I am looking for a 1400 CFM rooftop blower. My vent hood insert model is Independent PMLSS52SS.

Thanks for any help!!

I'm sure Fantech would work, but there are others also. All you need to do is match the duct size. If your hood is pre-wired it's probably std red, green, black. My Fantech is a 1200 roof mount & I am happy with it.

thanks ratflinger! i just looked at the installation instructions and my insert requires a 10 inch duct. so i will check out all of the 10 inch blowers. thanks again!!

DHS Appliances is selling Independent in-hood 600cfm blower for $130 + $25 shipping on ebay.

Here is a link that might be useful: LINK

If you can do a remote blower in attic etc, the Fantech FKD 10XL is the choice. It's rated 1266 cfm off the top of my head, is super efficient and if coupled with an LD 10 silencer is incredibly quiet. Far superior to an in hood blower if you can do one.

Abbaka has a 1400 or 1200 CFM roof mount blower. Very quiet and seems to have good reviews in this forum.

Agree: we had looked at the Abbakka until my contractor refused to go out on our steeply pitched roof to mount it. Thus, the in-attic FKD 10XL. Both are good options.

thanks all! deeageaux, that si a gerat deal, but i think the inline or external blowers have the higher cfm that i need for my chargrill.. the fantech is looking very attractive to me now. the abbaka says it should only be installed with abbaka inserts, i guess it would void warranty otherwise :(

Did you call Abakka? We will be using a different insert/ hood and they did not think it was a problem. The blower comes with it's own rheostat that you can either install on the wall or use the rheostat control on your liner hood provided it is a variable speed type and not the 3-4 speed controls you see on many hoods.

Hi Lalitha, my insert has the 3-4 speed controls. but i guess i could do a wall control. Thanks, i will call abakka to see what they say.

just a followup, i went ahead and ordered the inline fantech fkd10xl along with silencer. also, if anyone is interested in continuous fan control, fantech tech support told me that they also offer a wall switch to do so, called the SCD7. the abakka was also a good choice, but the fantech with silencer was half the price and gave me 66cfm more (not sure it will make much difference in actual performance, but on paper it sounded good to me). abakka customer support was also excellent when i talked with them.. with great reviews for both products, i felt i could not go wrong with either, so i elected to save some money for a faucet upgrade and go with the fantech... thanks everybody for all of your helpful suggestions!!

Good luck: we have the exact same setup as you're getting and after three years it's one of the best things about our kitchen in terms of performance and silence.
