Question: What is jute?

I want to make some apple stackers and the instructions say to use 12" piece of jute.

Here are the instructions in total:

Use 12" piece of jute and tie one end to 3 sticks of cinnamon that are laid in a bundle. String apples (slices) by pushing jute through center of each apple. When apple stacker is long enough, tie end with 3 more sticks of cinnamon and tie a loop so the stacker can hang.
