Thanks to Pee Wee, and all others that submitted useful information for replacing the 3340 Resistor in the Philips Magnavox TVs. I just wanted to let you all know that I successfully replaced this resistor over the weekend. The resistors purchased at Radio Shack are a little larger in appearance, are a different color than the factory installed resistor and have four color bands as opposed to five...they still work!

One thing to think about is getting the correct type of solder and resin to attach solder to a CRT board. I had high quality silver solder for electronics, but with the TV sitting in a upright position, the solder would not stick to the CRT. So, with the help of a friend, we put the TV face down (Protecting the tube of course) and I was able to drop the solder into place without any problems.

i must not have my eyes open. i have a phillips magnavox ts2746 c221 with the same symptoms - whitish screen, horizontal lines, shuts down in ~10 seconds. but i cant find an explanation or more information on what to do with resistor 3340. Can you help me? By your response it appears pee wee helped you. was that a private thing? if you read this pee wee can you help me too please?
