How do I remove pencil from the wall?

I hung pictures and marked with pencil on the wall. Did I mark with a dot? NO! I drew a line, thinking it wasn't going to show. Now that the line the pictures are hung from has stretched a half inch, guess what's showing? UGH! I've tried an eraser. It made even darker lines. Now I've tried soap and water and no luck with that either. Short of repainting, any ideas? It shouldn't be this hard to get off pencil!

Try rubbing with a laundry stain stick like Shout. Then wipe with a soft cloth. Test in an inconspicuous spot first.

Thanks for the suggestions. I ended up using Cerama Bryte. It's meant for cooktops, but got that pencil right off the wall!

Wow, thanks for the idea for cooktop cleaner. I used Weiman Glass Cook Top cleaner and it worked like a charm! Took off my granddaughter's pencil coloring on our front hall wall. Followed with a light wipe with Mr. Clean Magic eraser and then clear water. All gone, thank goodness!
