It would be called a Remote Shutter Release, but I don't think you can use one on that camera.

You could just use your built-in Self-Timer.

A tripod might help with the self timer function?

I did actually pick up a tripod in a second hand store. I've read up on using the self-timer. It's going to be a rather sharp learning curve for me, a lot of trial and error, but I'm confident I'll learn where to place the camera, the subjects and all that.
