The cabinet does not appear to be adequately ventilated for the amount of equipment you have stored there.

These units generate a considerable amount of heat and must be well ventilated.
Not a good idea to close them up in a cabinet.

We've had this system (in a large cabinet)for four years. The picture-loss problem, and the "hot" box are new. I'll try turning the DirecTV box off overnight. Maybe we need a new box! I'm waiting until mid-2006 to get the Tivo-type recorder because by then DirecTV's Chicago satelite for local programing in HDTV is supposed to be working.

Local HD from Directv for Chicago is up and working, at least for the 4 networks. Altho' I understand there is, or was, a shortage of the 5 LNB dishes.

Thanks, jimisham. I'll check with DirecTV. BTW, since we've been turning the cable box off at night we haven't experienced the feed loss. Still curious why this just started after four years without a problem.
