I hate my bedroom - pls help
Comments (36)Much depends on your budget, and plans for how long you want to be in this house. Is it your "forever" house, or a transitional step? In either case, I agree with the others who say don't remove the stained glass. (at least get estimates from architectural salvage, as to value, and from several contractors for cost to replace with something you like better.) Those arched windows are gorgeous! Play them up! Just Googled "curtains for arched windows" and found several lovely options. Most intriguing was from Etsy, but alas, they were Doll House miniatures. Perhaps if you took a picture of them to a drapery store (or a local seamstress) you could get something similar... I like the idea of mirrors in the tops, perhaps even double sided so both showed mirror? Lots of possibilities there. Depending on your style, fans sound lovely, could also make a custom fit with nothing more than posterboard or foamcore and either fabic (coordinated to draperies, of course) or wallpaper. Simply measure, cut to size, pleat, and attach to foamcore (or the back of mirror). The suggestion to paint the closet doors to match the walls is also a great idea. I would also agree with placing the bed between windows, if that arrangement works for your space and flow of the room. Maybe a beautiful four poster or canopy bed? Or a bed crown and drapery over a pretty padded headboard? It would also put those widows out of your sightline from the bed. If that doesnt appeal to you, or won't work, then a chaise or pair of chairs with a side table would be lovely as well. Deciding whether you want ellegant and formal, crisp and modern, or something in between will help guide you. Ask at your local home store about using apps that let you try out color options online using photos of your room. One more thing, the rug and bedding seem to be fighting one another. This is where choosing an over all theme to your style will help. Good luck and happy decorating! And remember to be grateful. These are very first world problems, after all, and many, many families would give anything to have such a lovely home....See MoreHelp Needed: Basement Family Room
Comments (157)Yes, it was Photoshop SE or LE, but the special or limited edition, so it's cheaper than full-blown PS, which is almost $600. If you go to the Adobe website, and look under downloads, they might have it there. Or you could download Gimp 2.0 for free, and that has a similar user interface as PS. That can be found on gimp.com website....See Morerecessed ceiling
Comments (3)HI -- To go with your mostly white light color plan , maybe paint the flat ceiling sections with a suttle blue. It will still be light but it will show off the beam pattern . Or for a little more detail find a wallpaper that has a texture and sheen like a linen or grass cloth texture in a light blue or a natural light tone or something in a pearl shimmer . Look for some Mica paper or even some cork paper with metallic bits in it . Or find a decorative Artist painter or a paper for a sky and clouds affect . ....See MoreArrange room with TV and Fireplace
Comments (3)Yes, this is a tough room. So let's start with the tv. Option 1: If you could wall mount it in its current location and just have a narrow shelf for components, you can create a better walkway and give you the opportunity to add another chair. Also, if it's wall mounted, you can put it on an articulating arm so you can face it in any direction. Option 2: Moving the the tv to the right of the fireplace-wall mounted but using your current tv stand. This gives you the option of the fireplace becoming the focal point. In either can, I recommend seating on a swivel base so you have better tv viewing. I think the size of your current sofa and leather chair are good. Fabrics- because everything is light gray and white, recommend a dark blue sofa and matching leather chairs in a orange color. May also want to consider bringing some gold through your accessories. Would also look for a bolder art piece for over the fireplace....See Moremaggie_mae
