Microfibre is polyester, at least that is what I believe. I am in the carpet industry and know a bit about polyester. It is a fiber that doesn't "stain", but doesn't take wear well. It won't hold up like leather. Remember that business is terrible everywhere and salesmen will say anything.....

We have a Flexsteel microfiber sofa. The fabric is pretty durable and easy to clean. It has a very short nap.

We had an issue with a couple of stitches coming loose. The first one was covered by the dealer right after install. The second one I sewed myself because it was quicker and easier. I think we probably just got a "bad" one because we have not had any problems with our other Flexsteel chair.

One issue with our microfiber is that the sheen does change with wear. In other words, the dark red microfiber looks slightly lighter where one sits and the nap lays over. This may not be a problem with lighter colors or other companies microfiber.

Also, if it is very humid inside the microfiber can feel somewhat clammy. This is usually not a problem in our home with climate control, but I have noticed it on a couple of occasions when the A/C wasn't running in the Spring. It is polyester after all.
