Modern Online

Anyone buy any modern pieces online? Who do you like? I need to buy a condo full of modern, on a budget! So, what are the best sources that don't cost a fortune? I live in Kansas City and there aren't too many modern options in stores here! Thanks!

just bought a great contemporary dresser from Room and Board, the 6 drawer maple Copenhagen..bought it on line and am very pleased with quality of the piece. cost $1500 with tax and delivery.i live in n.y. state.. will be buying their CHELSEA L shaped couch in a few months. reminds me of B&B ITalia styling, which is so cost prohibitive.

Eurway.com and IKEA.com would both have fairly inexpensive pieces.

I just googled "contemporary furniture" and got several listings that looked good. "modern furniture" or "mid-century modern" might get you some different hits.

Loren: Tell me more about the Copenhagen finish, will you?
I'm torn between the Copenhagen armoire and the Delano armoire (the Copenhagen is slightly larger but less expensive, don't know why tho).

I plan to make a trip up to Room & Board's Soho store to see them in person (it's a 5+ hour drive, but I'm not plunking down cash without seeing it and opening the drawers, etc! even tho I am told great things about their quality and used to "visit" the R&B store in Chicago a few years back).

And now I see a bed in the catalog that's very appealing, too -- thank goodness they have a flat-fee delivery price, no matter the # of items!

    Thanks guys!

Loren - I'm glad room and board worked out well! I'm really wanting their Jackson two sided chaise! So cool!

Liz - I'll check out eurway.com and ikea. I really wish we had an ikea out here!! I googled modern furniture, but not contemporary, so I'll see if anything else comes up that I haven't looked at yet!

Anyone else with personal (good or bad!) experience of ordering furniture online?

Have you thought about Bo Concept? You can order by phone, I believe, thought not exactly "online" and have it delivered. We just got our dining room table there. Also, CB2 (Crate and Barrel modern division).

I'm interested in other ideas too! We have much more to buy.

Hi- nobody has mentioned the obvious, but have you tried Ebay? There are tons of modern furniture sellers in the Ebay stores, and even with shipping, usually still less expensive than a brick and mortar store. Just a thought! LoL The thing I like about Ebay is that I can shop from an ever changing variety any time of the day or night!

You can also try West Elm.

Liz_H and rebecca2000 - Just checked out Eurway and Bo Concept. Love them both - thanks so much.

I hadn't thought of ebay! LOL! I'll look.

BoConcept and Eurway are both good. I also stumbled on another site called sleekspaces.com.

I was out looking today and saw a really cool sofa. The back can be tall like a recliner back, or can fold down to be a short back - more formal look - AND it pushes out another 6 inches so it can be a total of 46" deep! How cool! It can double as a single bed for overnight friends! I tried to get the name of the manufacturer, but the sales guy didn't know...hmmm.... I'm tempted, $2700. Not too bad, although I'd like to spend less...!

I bought a sofa off ebay over 2 years ago, and I noticed that most contemporary sofas there are offered by ebay store owners, and many ebay store owners have the same sofas (not sure if this is still true) .... must have the same supplier. Anyhow, I paid over $1200 for the sectional sofa I got, and the comfort level was not great, plus the cushions are thin, so my favorite spot on the sofa is now quiet flattened and hard on my tush.

A friend of mine bought a similarly priced sofa for his loft from www.azzia.com. They don't have a large selection, but the sofa he got is heavy (normally a sign of good quality) and quite comfy .... I'm considering a replacement from here (maybe their large brown sectional) just as soon as my tush can't take my current sofa anymore : )

Rebecca--Have you rec'd that dining table yet? How long did it take to arrive?
Bo Concept has a horrible reputation for importing things basically one at a time. I know I'm not willing to wait months and months and months for anything!

Anyone have a good site for a modern glass coffee table?

"Design-Not-Quite-Within-Reach" has some nice ones ...
