need help finding a buffet/server for dining room

Hi all,

I'm in Westchester County, NY. I'm getting a Maitland Smith dining room set in the Aged Regency finish. Now I want a buffet/server/side board to do with it. (My dining room is going to be my temporary office as well so I want the storage to stash my files.) I saw one that I liked in a store but they put their own codes on it and so I don't know the manufacturer. When I asked then outright they claim it is something made for them. I don't believe them. I think it is just one way for then to overcharge me. (Once before, they had a dining table and chair set that I liked. They told me it was "made for them" so there was no manufacturer name. I saw the same thing on the internet and realized that they were not telling the truth.) It's not that I want to buy from the cheapest person - I just really want to know what I am buying. I want to be able to research the company. Anyway, I can't find that particular piece on the internet. It does remind me of pieces made by Century - http://www.centuryfurniture.com/ProductCatalog/Items/PrintItem.aspx?CG_Item=629-405M - but Century does not have it in their catalog. The code the store has on the piece is EM FH 3001. I haven't found any manufactures with those initials. Is there a book that has these codes or maye they made them up themselves?

This is another one that I saw online that I like but it is too big - http://lexfurniture.com/cart/product/3901.

Does any one know any other companies that make buffets/serves like the ones in the picture? I need a width of maybe 72 maximum. A stone top would be nice. Does any one know about the codes that furniture stores use? Does anyone know any good furniture stores in Westchester. (I've already been the Saveigh, Stickley and EA and haven't seen any buffets/side boards that I like and or would go with the Maitland Smith set.)

Thanks

Each store has their own codes, and there's no rhyme or reason to decipher them. And yes they don't want you to have information that can be used to shop price. Another way to get the information is to tell them exactly what you want to do - find out more about the company. And in return offer your name and phone number so they feel they can keep in touch so they don't lose a sale because of pricing alone.

Beyond that you can ask about construction, origin, etc. Sorry but I don't know any stores in Westchester.

That is exactly what I told them - which is true. I want to research the company. Actually I wanted to buy it but don't want to unintentionally buy junk. I bought a $3K living room sofa from them before and the pillows didn't even last a year of hardly any use. I do like the colors of the sofa and chairs and ottoman that they helped me put together - so I'm not so upset over it. Plus the designer was very nice. I just don't want to buy without knowing more about the brand. I didn't tell them about the pillows - but I think I will ... just for their own knowledge anyway.

I had a terrible time finding a sideboard that would suit our home and our needs. I scoured antique/consignment shops, auctions, and looked at all major brands of furniture for something. All told, I spent close to two years on the exercise and I struck out completely.

In desperation, I contacted a custom furniture maker, unsure I would be able to afford such a "luxury". Lo and behold! not only did the "custom" route turn out to be "in line" with the prices I had seen, but I was able to have features built into it to accomdate our needs. And in the wood I wanted! And it was made by talented tradesmen in our country.

It arrived just over 3 1/2 mos. later (as promised!), in perfect condition, and was placed in its present site by the delivery team. Gone are the stacked silver chests, the piles of linen formerly stuffed into the pantry, and the open flatware organizer that lived on the kitchen counter for years. It ranks as one of the smartest purchases I've ever made, should have done it a year sooner.
