Shabby Chic

Does anyone know how Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic sofas compare in quality construction to other brands (such as Lee)?

I wish I knew your answer. I am hoping that if I bump this up, someone will see the question who knows the answer. I love the Shabby Chic look.

Well, I don't know about Lee furniture, but I do have a Shabby Chic sofa and think it's great. We bought it about four years ago and it is a beloved nap spot 'round here ....

We had initially been looking at a George Smith sofa but decided against it for two reasons: cost (an enormously expensive sofa -- sofa or one day my husband can retire?), and my husband didn't like its three seat cusions (he wanted just two).

Anyway, I know George Smith is really well regarded (and it should be for that exorbitant price) and we felt the 84" Shabby Chic Beecroft Sofa (which is the one we have) was a comparable substitute. We'd buy it again in a heartbeat. In fact, for a while I was really angry with myself for not buying the matching chairs as well. (We'd already purchased the George Smith chairs and when I think of the money we wasted ....)

My only two caveats: if you're pregnant or otherwise encumbered (e.g., bad back), it's really hard to get in and out of this sofa (it's deep and has so much down!). It's soft & squidgy. I'm thinking about having some more firm fill (can't think of what it's called) tucked inside. I mean, it's wonderfully comfy, but my (disabled) father cannot sit on this sofa without requiring terrific assistance getting up. (when I was pregnant I just kept a large and firm pillow tucked behind my back so I could never sink all the way into the sofa)

We had them do COM (we bought the sofa at the San Francisco store) and it is fabulous -- honestly, they washed all 25 yards (so I didn't have to -- bless them) for only $1 a yard (which I think is a steal), and they truly did a beautiful job matching the fabric for the slipcover.

Sorry I can't answer your query about how it stacks up against Lee, but I think Shabby Chic is fine furniture and to me, worth every penny.
