I need a safe junk e-mail address.

I need another e-mail address for some stuff I'd like to keep separate. Nothing bad, I just want to keep it out of my personal e-mail.

I went to sign up for a free g-mail (through google), but it asks for my full name, b-day, and location when signing up. Is this safe?

I know I registered here, but I was worried they would target ads to me or put me in some grand Google directory.

Does anyone have experience with this sort of account? Do you have another free e-mail to recommend? I would like the name to sound somewhat professional, I mean, I don't the address to be something like @funkytown.com

:O)

I have a Yahoo email account. I generally don't supply any of my real personal info. Just make something up; they'll never know the difference, nor do they need to.

I have a gmail account and it gets no junk whereas my hotmail account gets quite a bit. One thing to be aware of with any email is how you are identified when you SEND mail from that account - you can control that. For example, when I respond to an ad on Craigslist, I don't want my full name to show on the email, only my first name. I have my setting on all of my email accounts (3) set to show 'Deb' only. Friends that I email know who I am and anyone else doesn't need to know.

FWIW, gmail has become my email of choice - I like the way continuing emails are chained together, use google chat and video chat all the time. The google calendar system is very convenient with a son who links me to his calendar so I know when/where he's working. And I like the igoogle home page which I have set up to meet all my needs - very easy to personalize. As far as I'm concerned, google could run the world - they do a great job with just about everything I've used!

I never give out my information because they sell it and it ends up somewhere you wouldn't want to be. Just because they ask doesn't mean you are obligated. I put I'm 100 years old, at a location in my old state and the name Mary Doe. I just make sure I use the same information consistently so I can easily remember what's there.

I've had a gmail account for years with no problems.

Gmail, also with no problems. I don't recall if I ever gave my real name or not; you don't have to. With gmail; you can get mobile apps as well as pull any emails (other accounts) through it & you can configure your mail client (Outlook/thunderbird) to work with it.

My son has a yahoo account.. what crap. You wouldn't believe the spam he gets in his inbox. With gmail it's rare I see any spam. I love gmail as well as the many features, free picasa photo sharing, documents online; web pages, blog.

I was using my picasa album the other day; a neat new feature is tagging photos of people with facial recognition. It worked really well.

Try the gmail, you may end up liking it for every day instead of junk!

I have an old aol account that I use when they ask for an email and I don't want to deal with getting stuff from them in the future. I use it also when I go out onto realtor sites looking at houses and they want my email address.

I get enough crap in my real email address as it is.

Hotmail and Yahoo are also easy email setups.

I don't know anyone who supplies there real info to web based email accounts. Why would anyone do that??

What ever info you enter should be written down and saved somewhere though. If you should ever forget your password or your account gets hijacked they will ask you for you "information". After all they can't just send out passwords for accounts to just anybody who asks for it claiming to be the owner of said account.

I learned this the hard way with my Yahoo account. They needed to know my birthday in order to retrieve my password for me and how the heck would I remember what I had put down when I signed up? Good-bye Yahoo email account.

Some email services ask for your referrer email account too so take note of that also.

My yahoo is getting seriously junky, not just spam, but real-looking e-mail from people I don't know. I never open them.

I signed up for g-mail! Thanks for the help. I didn't have anyone to ask as everyone seems to use their business or organization e-mail address.

    Thanks! :O)

You will love gmail! Check out the settings and add ins. I love the look of having my (outlook integrated google calendar) calendar on the left of my inbox.

Yep, gmail is my 1st choice, second is a @live.com (another MS one that doesn't sound as cheezy as hotmail).

Another gmail user and fan here! I agree, dlm, google should run the world. LOL! I am using their internet browser (Chrome) and love it! It's much faster than my old Safari browser. Go google!

With gmail you can identify mail as spam. Google is the best at weeding out spam. Spammers hate google.

I'm surprised to read about problems with yahoo mail. I've had an account for years and don't recall receiving any spam. Certainly haven't received any in the past five years. I only use that account for internet forums and the like so I don't care what features it has but it seems like an okay format.

It looks pretty easy. Yahoo ads were so slow to load on my dial-up. I like that there is a setting in the gmail so that it will load quicker for slow connections.

If I would have know that, I would have signed up years ago! I've wasted too much time waiting for ads to load.

My husband and I each have yahoo accts, and no spam what so ever! We have no complaints about it.

I did it with my gmail account, yahoo and hotmail. There has never been a problem. I make sure I click on the privacy buttons. I get spam like everyone else, but nothing that has ever indicated that my name, address, etc. have been compromised.
