My Brazilian Cherry floors are orangy-red. Our wood came pre-stained (it's BR-111 Triangulo, engineered). These pictures are from about 5 months ago, and we installed the floor about 2.5 years ago.

Having said that, I have seen some Brazilian Cherry floors that tended more towards the purple (and in some cases, greenish/yellowish, depending on the stain, I guess) range, which I personally do NOT like. I specifically chose BR-111 because their floors appeared closer to a reddish color, which is what I wanted.

jacobfloors, I have no idea what you are asking. The original poster asked for people to post pictures of their floors (presumably floors installed in their own homes). That's what I did -- posted pictures of my own floors.

No offense, but neither of your posts make any sense in the context of this conversation.

Jacob, exactly what do you mean with your post? Did you mean you would show me a picture of a showroom floor that is 3-4 years old? Well yes then that will help me. I am looking to see if BC floors darken to a dark purplish red or not. As for what you were asking Rivkadr, I don't get it either....

teddas, regarding the darkening -- when we first got our flooring, the color tended to be a sort of light orangey-yellow. Over the past few years, it's definitely darkened to the sort of orange-red that it is now. BUT, we tend to live like mole-people, and keep most of our blinds drawn, so the rooms in our house don't get that much light. I have noticed that the flooring in the one corner of our living room where the sun comes in at a certain angle around/through the drapes is much darker than elsewhere in the living room -- I wouldn't say it's purple exactly, but it's definitely a deeper, darker red than anywhere else.

The darkening is one thing you really have to be able to deal with when you have Brazilian Cherry. We were warned of it, and knew what to expect, so we're not overly shocked by it, but there are definite light squares under all of our furniture and rugs. My one piece of advice (if it's feasible) to anyone installing BC is to open your windows to as much sunlight as possible after installation, and don't move any furniture/rugs in for a couple of weeks -- the one room that we did that to has had substantially less dark/light difference. I think the floor in that room did most of its darkening in that first couple of weeks, and the rest of it has been more gradual since then.

rivkadr, I just love your Brazilian Cherry flors so much! I do not get much light in my office so I have been trying to decide on a ligher floor like Amendoim or a darker floor like Brazilian Cherry or even a 12 Mm Laminate like Bruce Park Avenue Makore (African Cherry .... but I wish it had more red in it since my office furniture is cherry).

It is rare that BC is stained. I have heard of a few companies applying some stain to help lessen the darkening with exposure, but it messes with the natural beauty of BC, when it patinas.

I prefer the Brazilian Cherry floors unstained since I love their natural beauty.

Rivkadr, the photos of your floors at 2.5 years old look much like the flooring we're putting down right now - I was starting to think they would turn black in a few months from the way people have been talking...

The retailer we bought our wood from made it very clear it would darken over time, but I've been reading a few comments that are frightening me. Seeing your floors has eased my mind a bit!

Again, Bill, I just love everything about this picture. I love the glossy Brazilian Chery floors and I adore that kitchen's beautiful floor and cabinets.

If I was to buy the Brazilian Cherry Engineered Wood Floors for my two room home office and my family room, and if I was too move and moved the many filing cabinets out of the room, would the way too light areas under the cabinets darken up to match the floor if I left the window shades open for a week or so?

I guess this is my only concern.

Also is Brazilian Cherry floors lighter than Santos Mahogany Floors? Which stays lighter?
