what is your sub floor?

The subfloor is a slab. Any suggestions? On top of the slab is three layers of old tile. In fact Im having the tiles tested for asbestos.

It really depends on a few things. I have seen the wood or especially bamboo have a smell for weeks, months, or years in the case of cedar(not used on the floor).

The glue you use is going to be another factor. Look into W.F. Taylor adhesives. Sika adhesives stink! Bostik's isn't bad, but there is a little off gassing, that irritate some.

Thanks for the advice. Since I was recently diagnosed with Asthma I am very
concerned about the irritants. At this point, I am pretty surre I am going to change my mind about the glue-down and go with an alternative. What do you think about a floating floor? I know my contractor is not a big fan of it..he says it shifts and doesnt feel that great underfoot. Is it much less expensive to install then a nail down? Thanks so much for your advice, it

I have installed many glue down job over the years, and used SikaBond T55 every time, it doesn't smells good when installing, but after the glue dries, there is no smell at all, I don't see a problem at all, I never seen any home owner complain about the smell after it's installed, I personally don't like floating floor, because it looks cheap.

That Sika T-55, burned my eyes, nose and made my throat raw, using it just one room, before I got out the respirator, and full goggles. The home owner who purchased the glue, was overwhemled by the odor for days. They got a Hotel the first night, and slept next door the next night.
