Need Grilled Asparagus advice, ASAP

We're grilling steaks on Sunday and we'll also be grilling Asparagus and Green Onion.

I usually do it in the oven but read it's even better on the grill under high heat.

We use charcoal, and the recipes I found never said to use gas or charcoal. Is it okay to use charcoal?

Also, the recipes never said to lay the Asparagus right on the grill or use a grilling basket. So would it be okay to put the Asparagus in the basket along with the onion?

I'm sure some fire will touch it at times, is that okay? It will be coated with Olive Oil.

    From Wegman's:

    # Drizzle asparagus to lightly coat with basting oil. Season asparagus with salt to taste.
    # Clean grill with wire brush. Using soft cloth, coat grill grate lightly with vegetable oil. Arrange vegetables on grill; cook about 2 min. Turn. Cook about 2 min until browned and slightly pliable. Remove from grill; cool briefly.

Don't know a thing about grilling, but I just had to read a post entitled, "Need Grilled Asparagus advice, ASAP" and I'm so glad I did. Have read it about 6 times now. You are so cute Oakley! You just tickle me. Thanks for making me smile.

Good luck with your meal. I'm sure it will be yummy.

Btw, any tip from Wegman's has got to be good. Suero, I don't have a W anymore, & I sure do miss it. Great store!

We usually just drizzle the asparagus with oil and sprinkle salt and pepper and fold it in foil, grill for 7 minutes. Once its done, we sprinkle a bit of parmesan cheese on it and it's sooooo good.

I am sure you can either start the onions early and add to the asparagus for the last 7 minutes or cook totally separate and then combine when you are serving?

So it's not literally "grilled" on the grill, but it's tasty!

    I hope this helps. :o)

Thanks everyone. After I posted the question I finally found a recipe the same as the one's above, but I'm going to go ahead and put it in the basket since it's a strong mesh like basket and the veggies will still get the open grill taste to it.

Instead of salt and pepper, I'm going to use Paula Deen's House Seasoning which is delicious! It's just a combo of salt, pepper and garlic. I use it on everything now when it calls for salt and pepper. Garlic always adds that special touch.

My favorite receipe linked below. I use less oil and usually a flavored vinegar like orange or blueberry. Super Yummy. Works for the oven or the grill. We usually put it in foil on the grill so it doesnt stick.

Here is a link that might be useful: marinated

We also use foil if putting veggies on the grill; or I just steam them in the house.

My son's friend did them in a frying pan with garlic one day, they tasted pretty good.

I have been roasting all veggies and have discovered the taste is so much better. I like to do a grilled veggie platter when we have friends/family for a bbq. Just olive oil, kosher salt & fresh ground pepper. Also a very pretty presentation to break up the monotony.

Hope your asparagas and your day were spectacular Oakley.
