Please Help! with carpet selection

Hi
I am really hoping someone could give me their advice!
The carpet I like from a GOOD retail store (I believe it is a Mohawk Floorscapes store) is a newer Mohawk Superstrand BUT it is also 50% P.E.T.Polyester. There were quite a few other choices of this 50/50 blend material at this store and I haven't been able to find anything out about how it compares with 100% Superstrand-which I like.
But -After I questioned the salesman about the the use of polyester-which is what Superstrand is supposed to be so much better than, the salesman assured me it is great and that each strand is part Superstrand and part good Poly.and it increases the look etc..
BUT they were also expensive. Only thing is- I love the color and it has subtle shading of lighter and darker color... not speckled but interesting looking.
The two samples I liked were Endless Opportunity in color Sunset Beach -a medium frieze loop style, not too thick, at $5.56/sq. ft.
I also liked On the Move from Mohawk which was a tighter pile and thicker at $6.15/Sq ft.
These prices include everything.
But I am really concerned about the quality... and paying a high price for something half Polyester!
I have about 1,400 square feet to do .
I also looked at Lowe's... good prices, but I am afraid of the install with all my steps and large area.
I also went to different carpet stores but No One else had this particular carpet I liked.
Any advice you can give would be sooo appreciated.

Carpet dealers usually carry samples of many carpet lines from multiple mills and manufacturers in their showrooms. You'll see a range of quality when you begin your carpet search. Your best bet is to educate yourself and research your options before you head to the store.

Below is a helpful guide to understanding what to expect when visiting a carpet dealer.

Be prepared for your dealer to ask some of the following questions:

How is the room going to be used?

Is there light or heavy room traffic in the room?

Where are you located? The prices sound competitive, but you can get a much better deal if you know where to look. Im guessing that by "Superstrand" you meant SmartStrand. If you like Mohawk's SmartStrand, you will LOVE their SmartStrand Silk. Best carpet you can buy. Seriously. It's that nice. If you are willing to do some digging, you can probably get it for the same price as what some of the big box stores are quoting you for the basic SmartStrand. If you happen to be in South Eastern Michigan, I can give you a great deal. If not, try poking around Craigslist for a carpet installer. There are lots of guys on there who are looking for work, and don't have the massive overhead as the big box stores. The carpet all comes from the same mills, you'll just pay less. Just make sure to check their references online, such as google+, Angie's list, etc.

Thanks for your help. I did mean Smartstrand. I have read many reviews on it and it seems that some people love it while other prefer the tried and true Nylon. I would get either if I found a color and quality I liked. I do like the Smartstrand but am wondering about its longevity and use on steps.
BUT I still am still confused as to the difference between the 100% Smartstrand and the "SmartStrand Triexta PET" that the carpets I looked at listed as the fiber type.
It says 50% Triexta, 50% P.E.T. Polyester. on the back of the sample and on line at the Mohawk site.
Any thoughts? The salesman said each strand is made of half of each material. Thanks again for any help.

Did you end up going with the 50/50? I am wondering the same thing, and can't find any info out there.

I, too am looking at a very pretty 50/50 blend. 50%PET/50% Triexta. i have cats so i am looking for something first and foremost nontoxic…. have haven’t had much luck with research
