air handler doesn't always kick on...

Hi Everyone, hope I can find some help here. We have 2 zones of hydroair heat/AC. I woke up this morning and my downstairs heat was at 58. So I went down to look at the furnace. The water pipes to the downstairs air handler were hot and it seemed like the furnace knew that zone 1 wanted heat. So I am assuming the circulater pump is working. So I turned the air handler fan to "on" to see if it was the fan that was broke. The fan worked. So then I turned it back to auto and the air handler kicked on and started blowing heat.

Now this is the second time I have had to do this in 5 days. I plan on calling an HVAC company. But since the heat is now working I am not sure if they can figure it out and will get charged for the service call anyway.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Derek
