Me! After going off on Friday evening, our electricity was restored Sunday night, oddly enough in the middle of another storm, which included the hardest hitting hail that I've ever experienced.

I had taken freezer contents to my two sisters, one who never lost power at all, and one who used a generator for a few hours. After my freezers were up and running (and still empty) I offered the space to my aunt, who's electricity was off until sometime very early yesterday. I returned her stuff today, so now I'm putting off cleaning out my freezers and gathering up my fruits and veggies.

We had a similar outage in Feb 2003, after The Great Ice Storm. I prefer sweltering to freezing, although at that time of year we didn't need to worry about the peaches thawing. :) Makes me appreciate the 'life of leisure' that I normally enjoy.

I had two 6-hour power outages, Friday night and then for reasons unknown, Saturday night, but I consider myself lucky. I had to help move a friend who lived in an assisted-living building without power, so I saw a lot of the downed trees and wires in one of the hardest hit areas.

Nothing here in Westchester NY,in my neighborhood. We are know for outages and are lucky so far. Many neighbors have invested in generators. So far we have not.

We lost our electricity on Friday night (June 29) and were without until the following Thursday (July 5)--6 days! To top it off, we had a family wedding to attend over the July 4 holiday, so had to leave our "adult" children here. Before we left, I threw out all our food--2 refrigerators and 2 freezers full.

We returned from FL (which was much cooler than Maryland, to our astonishment). My refrigerators and freezers are still empty, but my daughter did the laundry, which had piled up. Crossing my fingers that we stay up and running--I depend on my internet connection to do my job, and have fallen way, way behind in everything... It's the worst outage we have had in 19 years of living here. Dreadful.

Cooper, where in MD are you? Our neighborhood (in Annapolis) was w/o power from Friday night until Wednesday night (July 4th) and it was Pike Power who also came to our rescue!

We lost power again at 5pm Saturday evening, during the scorching 100+ degree temperatures, but thankfully it came back on by 10pm. But of course, by then it was 95 degrees in our bedroom and took forever to cool down enough for comfortable sleeping.

Then tragedy struck us again yesterday morning. I don't know if you saw the news story (on Baltimore channels) about the house fire that killed a woman. She was my neighbor, just a block away. My other neighbor's son was the one who first saw it and had his mom call 911. We were leaving for Mass at that moment and saw the inferno. We all suspected she didn't make it out alive as both of her cars were in the driveway and she lived alone (her husband died recently). Very tragic and after all the events we went through last week w/power outage and damage to our home and yard (we lost a huge tree), we were just hoping we were on the upswing when that happened.

Today was our garbage pick up - I'd thrown out four huge garbage bags of food that have, in the heat all week, just become horribly rancid. We pulled into the driveway shortly after the garbage got picked up and the lingering smell was disgusting! I feel for the garbagemen today with all that nasty garbage!

kkay- I feel your pain! I thought 4 days was too much! at least you were able to get out of town.For next go around my DH will be able to connect our laptop with the PDA app on his droid phone so we will have wireless then.We are able to charge our phones on a marine deep cycle battery.
4 kids- I am in catonsville, so I guess the Pike power guys were divided up as needed among diff BGE crews. About a half mile away, a downed tree and wire- that required rewiring 6 poles-Had workers from Ontario Canada on it. Just thankful for the assistance.
I am sorry about the loss of your neighbor that is so tragic.I didn't see the report, didnt have the tv on much, except for a movie or two. I read this morning that a lot of baltimore county and city folks lost power again in the storm last night.lucky we didnt.
My freezers are empty and have about 3 things in frig. Not comfortable stocking up quite yet. Never in more than 30 years have we lost power for more than a half day. Even during Isabel we didn't lose power at all.Lot of trees in Cville and a lot of "trash trees" growing up around back yard power lines.
