too late??

I think I goofed and I'm pretty bummed about it. I knitted a nice sweater (cardigan). The edges curled greatly. So I proceeded to block the pieces with a damp towel and steam iron. The yarn is 80% acrylic and 20% wool. The ribbing was stretched a little, as it was curling badly too. Well now the ribbing is all stretched around the bottom of the sleeves, and just hangs there! Is there any way to restore the elasticity to it?? The label doesn't say not to block this yarn. It would have been very difficut to sew the pieces together if I hadn't. Any suggestions?
