ribbed edge curls

I have been making baby sweaters for layettes. Quite often I have trouble with the ribbing on the bottom of the cardigan folding up at about the point that I convert to the larger needles and the sweater pattern. I have been good about following directions. I know I can steam the sweater to get the ribbing to lay flat, but I wonder if anyone has a suggestion otherwise as to how to knit the rib transition so that it will lay flat.

Maybe your tension is tighter on the smaller needles than on the larger ones? That's about the only reason I can think of.

One of my projects instructed to end with WS row of a k2, p2 rib pattern.

I made a test swatch to see the difference between ending on an RS or WS row. For this particular project, the WS row did have a smoother edge.

I always slip the first stitch (don't knit it, just slip it onto the needle, then knit the next stitch) when I'm knitting...makes a nicer edge and it doesn't turn under.

The ribbing folds upward at the point where the ribbing changes to stockinette stitch for the body of the sweater. My problem is not the edge.
