At work the other day I noticed a woman knitting in the waiting room. I asked her what she was making. She said a touque. She said her group knits for the homeless. I asked if I could get involved. She said yes but they have stopped the meetings for the summer. I asked her if she needed any yarn. She said they always accept yarn because some people don't have money to buy but they still want to knit for others. So I got together three large green garbage bags full for her and took them to her home. She was really pleased and wanted to pay me but I told her she was actually doing me a favour. I would love to knit for the homeless too but I will not live long enough to knit all that yarn. If you remember, I always buy yarn at yard sales, fleamarkets and thrift shops and take it to my aunt in Cape Breton who knits all year round. She told me she has enough for now. Anyway there will be more. I can't seem to leave yarn there when I see it for sale. It is like I am addicted to it. This lady told me last year their group made 200 pairs of slippers for kids at the Ronald McDonald House here and over 400 touques for the homeless plus mittens, sock, blankets, etc. I know my yarn will go to good use. In the fall I will contine knitting socks again.
