This is a common problem with crocheting. You must be sure to do the turning chain which is in your pattern, then work back into the last stitch from the row before. You are reducing your work each row if you don't do this. Make sure every row you work is the same number of stitches--count as you go.

Yes, you have to count when you crochet. We talked about some helpers in a thread below this one. Counting is the key.

That is the most common mistake that crocheter's make.Take the advice above and you should not have any problems.
Until you get used to doing this just be sure to count your stitches each and every row.

I used safety pins or bobby pins to mark the last and the first stitch in a row. If I didn't come out right I knew I did something wrong. I crocheted a beautiful baby blanket for a gift and found out that it was huge at one end and very small at the other. I ended up giving it to a church for their nursery.
