Granny Square vest

I knit a lot while riding my exercise bike. I want to use up a lot of "this and that" yarn pieces. Like to wear a lot of vests and was wondering if I could incorporate all of this yarn into granny square blocks and use that to make the vests. Did I make myself clear or do you all need more details to help me achieve this?. Thanks in advance. Barb
