Dee Dee, the vinegar does help set colors. For odors, I would give them a soak in plain old water and baking soda. And remind everyone in the house to wring out the dish rag and not just leave it in a sloppy heap. The knitted and crocheted ones really hold onto the water.

It needs to dry out as quickly as possible after use. I put a hook on the inside of my undersink cupboard, and hang up the discloth there after using it. I also crocheted a loop on a corner of the cloth to hang it by.

What is a good yarn (include brand name, etc) and basic stitch/instructions for making dish cloths?

I did one with Lily's Sugar 'n Cream, cream, 100% cotton, worsted 4 ply, dc with a size N hook. After washing it really pulled together, which is ok, I just wasn't prepared for that, it got too small.

I don't want a yarn you have to baby either.
